I’ve Gone To The Dark Side

I knew the day would come when my beloved phone would need to be replaced. I had a Galaxy Note and really liked it, all the features and I knew the Android software well. But the phone was starting to do reboots for no reason and the battery life was beginning to wane. It was also responding slower and slower over time. Wednesday I went to Verizon, paid the remaining $29 owed, and traded in my Note for…and iPhone 7 Plus. I joined the dark side I’m told.

It took a bit of getting used too, at times I found it a tad frustrating. But I love technology so I quickly learned my way around and I think it is safe to say I’m to be an iPhone user from now on.

I also made a purchase on Amazon, after criticizing the items, until I had actually picked one up and messed around with it. Yes, the marvelous one is now the owner of 2, fidget spinners. *hangs head in mock shame* I KNOW, it is insane, but I do find them very soothing. I bought 2, and I really like them!

Life here in the Diva Den has become very laid back of late. Mom lacks energy to go the long haul with us, and really doesn’t want to drag Matilda around with her (the bag that her peg-tube empties into) so we do a lot of hanging out at home. The steady stream of visitors in the form of family and friends is nice, and helps us to make memories. It probably is a good thing we are all introverts and need to be home in our nests to recharge. Right now, I’m at my desk, window open enjoying the cool air (it is August 6th and only 71 degrees), listening to birds, rain, and incoming air planes. Mostly just quiet and I like that a lot. My job can be really stressful and trying to build a coaching business while working full time and helping out at home means this girl needs down time to recharge her batteries.

I’m not sure yet what will happen when she is gone. Hanging on to all this house for 3 of us seems silly, and it is not a cheap home to maintain. Sis and I have tossed around several ideas to each having our own apartment in the same complex or sharing one, or even renting/buying a small house. Just not sure what we want to do and until we have to make a decision the whole thing just sits there waiting to be addressed. It can go on that way too, we simply are not ready to face that.

Our Vibrating Bed

Here in the man-castle we have a nice, queen size bed, nestled there in our large bedroom on the second floor of the palace.  It is a very nice room, very comfy and one of my favorite rooms of the house.  That nice, warm, comfy bed, it seems, is of the vibrating variety.  I had not noticed this was the case in the beginning of this relationship.  In fact for months I’ve slept there all snug and warm with my Knight, completely unaware that our bed had such setting on it.

magic-fingers1-285x300There is no quarter slot anywhere, or a start button to get the bed into it’s quivering mode.  But recently, during the night time hours when all is still within the walls of our home, our bed will begin to shake.  I noted that the Knight was not having seizures so that was not the cause.  I also ruled out demonic infestations.

So, the source of this bizarre pulsating of the royal mattresses?

Well, it weighs in in 11.5 pounds (3.5 pounds heavier than it should be).  It’s furry and has 4 legs.  It is our adorable little Yorkie, Penny.  Recently she has been permitted to sleep on the bed as she remains within the community property area of our sleeping place.  That would be any area that our feet or heads or bodies are not occupying.  She is a wonderful foot warmer, all snuggled up in her blankets.  And she never causes either of us an issue.  At least unless she develops an itch in the night.  At that time she sits up and begins scratching with her hind leg in rapid movements, so hard that the bed begins to shake, rattle and roll.

Ha!  Bet that isn’t what  you thought when you read the title of this post!

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me – hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic

Here are the Questions:

1. Who was the last person you said ‘I love you to?’
2. What was the last non-kid friendly movie you saw?
3. When was the last time you got angry about something that you felt silly about later?
4. Where is your favorite object at this moment?

And don’t forget to answer the 5th question in the comment section if you are visiting!

1. Who was the last person you said ‘I love you to?’

My daughter when I ran into her while out shopping this weekend.  She thought I went into a store in a strip mall as she was pulling in so she tried to stalk me.  Finally she gave up and called my cell phone only to find out I was in an adjacent store.  We ended up at the same nail salon later.

2. What was the last non-kid friendly movie you saw?

I honestly have NO idea. I am not much of one for going to movies.  I enjoyed taking my granddaughter to see one but I haven’t gone for myself in a long time.  Mostly I am into several TV shows, like The Walking Dead, which are not, in my opinion, kid friendly.

3. When was the last time you got angry about something that you felt silly about later?

WOW that would be hard to say too. Anymore I don’t get angry often, and if I do it is over legit issues.  I just get annoyed and that is usually over something silly.  Recently I was annoyed with myself for reaching out to a former friend who does nails at her house (most likely illegally as I am pretty certain she hasn’t kept up her continuing ed to keep her license and I am also pretty sure you cannot do nails out of your house).  I know her husband is working 2 jobs to keep them afloat in this crap economy and thought maybe she could use the money.  She was, without a doubt, the best nail tech I know of, but she turned me down despite it being a nice sum of money (I checked the going rate in some of the high end salons) I was willing to pay.  Later I was annoyed for even asking, knowing that I’d be subject to sitting in her kitchen listening to her bad-mouth people while doing my nails.  She is the “queen” of drama stirring, gossip and back stabbing.  I’ve since found a great tech and was irritated with myself for offering good money to someone who has done nothing but fabricate lies about me since she has met me, and I have the ‘knife wounds’ in my own back to prove it.  I have a soft spot for idiots, fools, and losers.

4. Where is your favorite object at this moment?

My new Kindle Fire HD. My last Kindle was in my backpack on a road trip aboard a friend’s Harley, and we were unaware it and our helmets (we only wear them in helmet states – as frankly at 65+mph if you lay that bike down a helmet is not going to likely save your life, only contain all the brain matter until it is poured on a coroner’s table), had become detached on the highway somewhere around Louisville, Kentucky.  I’ve missed my Kindle very much, and while waiting to save up for a new one, they came out with the Fire HD version.  OMG I am in a very close relationship with this thing now.  Last night I sat up watching season 1 of Downton Abbey, as I kept hearing of so many watching it that I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about.  HOLY MOTHER OF OUTSTANDING shows!  PBS Masterpiece Theater Classics always rock and this is no exception.  I have several seasons to catch up on but it is worth it.  Oh, and I also have a huge list of books re-loaded now and going with me everywhere I roam, as I have so much reading to catch up on!

*****BONUS QUESTION for those hopping by to answer here in the comments:******

5.  What are 3 modern conveniences that you cannot imagine living without?

The microwave – I am learning what that is like, as ours first became possessed (ran when you opened the door so you had to grab fast to catch your coffee cup handle as it spun past), then just died altogether. I’m so missing my popcorn!!!

The coffee maker – We have a Bunn home coffee maker and it is the total bomb. Makes a full pot in less than 3 minutes.  We also have a Keurig, which is about the best machine to be manufactured since….well ever!  We are rarely without a pot of coffee on in this house, we’re a bunch of caffeine addicts.

Smart phone – I LOVE my phone.   Currently I have the Galaxy SIII and it is sweet.  My daughter, the former iPhone junkie, jumped ship and went to the Galaxy SIII and loves it way more than she did her iPhone so when it was time for me to upgrade I bought the same phone.  I love the communication abilities it affords me.  I can do a good portion of my job via my phone as it is really a small computer that we can use to make a phone call.  Not only texting but Skype with folks so I can see them while talking, I can watch Netflix movies on it…the darn thing is just amazing!  Smart Phones are the best!!!!!  If you have one, regardless of which one, you know what I mean!

When Is It T.M.I.? – Viewer Discretion Advised

By now, if you read my blogs with any regularity, you know that my life is an open book.  I write, Tweet, Facebook, FourSquare, Waze, Yelp etc, frequently.  I’ve been accused before, by a few folks who prefer more privacy in their lives, of being too open, supplying too much information.

I honestly do not think that I am too open, after all that is what social networking is about, sharing and connecting with others.  Sure, checking into FourSquare could be dangerous if your account is visible or posts to your Twitter account that is visible, but only if you are being stalked.  Just in case, I generally do not ‘check in’ until I am leaving the location, unless I am with others and don’t really feel unsafe in their company.

My Twitter account is wide open, I have nothing to hide.  If I’m going to “tweet” about someone, I won’t hide behind a private account to do it, in fact I will likely write a blog post about them.  I do know people who do this, private tweeting, all the while saying “I don’t say anything that I wouldn’t say to their face”.  That is frankly pure bullshit.  If you’d say it to their faces, your account wouldn’t be private.  But I suppose that makes some people feel better about themselves.  Me, I tweet it because I really would say it to their faces, and since those that dislike me come check it, I feel that I’m not hiding behind anything.  A ‘ho is a ‘ho, a bitch is a bitch.  However I have tried hard to sit on my pretty fingers even when I don’t want too.  It is why, after the crap spewing fan of my brother’s divorce finally stopped turning, I remained silent.  I could easily let it all fly now but innocent bystanders would be hurt.  But that is another blog post.

Anyway, when is it too much information?  I think the following crossed that line.  Now regardless of your stand on abortion, I really do think it is a private matter and that tweeting about it complete with this photo, is bottom dweller in taste.  THIS is too much information.  Just as telling the world on your Twitter or Yahoo IM status that you got a little some some (sex for the slow to grasp) is exceedingly lacking in class.  Someone suggested they think this is a bogus account, and I would certainly hope so, but if it is not, it is behavior  far beneath that of a lady.  Your thoughts/comments are certainly welcome.

Friday Confessional

PhotobucketIt is that time again…

I confess…
I am really loving this whole grandma thing.  2 grandchildren, who knew?  LOVING it.

I confess…
It was very nice watching the snow fall the other day, pretty and all wintery like.  Day after Christmas, on my grandson’s birth day, but I’m over the beauty thing now, it can leave.  Sadly it is going to snow some more tonight.  Seriously, where is summer???

I confess…
I had great intentions for the Grown Up Christmas List posts, but then I had to jump on the chance to go to school.  I’m certified now as a CNA but the line of blog postings…well those are not going to get finished this year.  And after the baby being born, I’m just kinda of a big, mushy hot mess right now. 🙂  In a good way of course.

I confess…
While I have not gained any weight over the holidays, I acquired or ‘renewed’ some bad eating habits.  Especially the Grazing Habit, that one where I just nibble all day then think “I didn’t eat a single meal today”.  Nope, more like 18 meals, not one of them ‘square’ unless you can find some nutritional value in Esther Price chocolates and Christmas cookies.

I confess…
I am addicted to yet another game.  My brother and daughter play Plague, Inc. on their phones.  Now I’m doing it too. UGH…but darn it is GOOD.

I confess…
I love my new cell phone.  I was stuck between iPhone and Samsung Galaxy SIII.  My daughter, who had an iPhone, is now a reformed iPhone user, she has the Galaxy SIII.  She loves her phone so I went with it too.  I am very pleased.  My other one is a piece of crap, kept shutting off and rebooting itself all day long.  I came very close to opening up the car window on I275 the last day of classes and tossing it under the wheels of a semi.  The screen is so much larger on this one, I can actually read my Kindle books.  I need a new Kindle, I miss it. Time for the Kindle Fire HD me thinks.

I confess…
I need to get back to regular, daily posts…

Friday Confessional

Ah yes, once again time to go behind the curtain, into the confessional and reveal the things others may not know, or perhaps after I bare it all they’ll wish they did not!

Okay let’s get this rolling!

I  confess…
I’m now hooked on yet another show.  Nashville got my attention and I’m watching it too.  Oh and American Horror Story, but not sure how long I’ll stick to that one, it is pushing the boundry lines for me as far as creepy goes.  But once I’m finished with bible study in the evenings, and it is too dark and cold to be outside now, I like to watch something while working on blankets.  My list of entertainment is growing for those nights when I want to stay in!

I confess…
I might go back to school.  I love learning new things and as I have time it would be beneficial to add to what I can do!

I confess…
I added a stat counter to my blog.  It isn’t visible to the public, but tracks a lot of great information on those who visit my blog.  I love it.

I  confess…
I have been working on a few posts of late just not sure I will publish them.  Might have to make those password protected so my select audience can see them.

Your journey can only be as great as the chances you are willing to take. ~ The Single Woman

I confess…
That quote really rings true for me.  My journey is about to grow, as there are many chances I am getting ready to take.  🙂  More on that at another time.

NOTE:  revision made, a section removed, per IP addresses in reports I believe the intended audience viewed it so no longer needed in this post.

Friday Confessional – No Skeletons In My Closet, Just A Hooker

Time to hit the confessional, currently being hosted over at High-Heeled Love while Mamarazzi takes a break. SO the icon above will take you to Mamarazzi’s place, you need to click on High-Heeled Love to get to the link-up if you decided to participate or want to read other blogger confessions.  Face it, you KNOW you want too, because we all like juicy stuff on others.

My ex-husband used to say we didn’t have skeletons in our closet, our’s sat out on the couch where you could see them all, as we had nothing to hide.  I try hard to carry that on, as I see no point in hiding things.

I confess…. I have a slight competitive streak in me.  Okay more than slight.  A little competition for the sake of fun can get me up off my tush and onto the playing field rather quickly.  Like yesterday there was a recruit-a-thon in our Avon district, so I was more driven to go find new leads and ended up with 6!  Or when it comes to truly important things, like my farm in FarmVille2.  Staying ahead of my baby sister will drive me to pull out of bed early to harvest my wheat.  Provided it is an even playing field, with NO real money being spent on the virtual farms.  Not that I haven’t been tempted!

I confess…. I have been enjoying the attention coming my way from out west via Long Beach, my nickname for some guy that lives there that has been off and on trying to get my attention for a few years now.  Claims he loves me (I confess I’m not that dumb as to believe in love at first sight, especially through photos) and wants to marry me.  Daddy didn’t raise me to be an episode of Criminal Minds so my being skeptical is understated.  But I will admit the texts are kind of fun.  But no wedding bells or relationships in my future, as he has never actually come here  to meet me despite the 2 year attraction now.  And nothing sexual, the texts are pretty vanilla, just amusing.

I confess…. Sometimes I like the idea of a Zombie Apocalypse.  I love the show, The Walking Dead, and we even have a ‘Zombie Attack Survival Guide’ poster hanging in the upstairs hallway.  Why you ask? Okay it is all fantasy dialog, but there are more than a few folks I’d love to have a  valid, lawful reason to stab in the head with a screwdriver.  Don’t freak out, I’m not a nut case, like I said, fantasy dialog.  Admit it, you know of at least one person that in your mind’s eye you’ve splattered their gray matter on the walls via a crossbow!  Huh? You haven’t? hmm….don’t tell my therapist.

I confess…. I do my best work in the 11.5th hour.  Hence I will be crocheting my sweet little fingers off today to finish up blankets  for the baby shower for my grandson tomorrow.  Don’t judge!  One is actually for my granddaugther, as she became my son’s the day he married her mother.  We adore this little red head and I promised myself once that all of my grandchildren would have a blanket from their grandma.  So I am making one for her just not a baby one, this is a beautiful big-girl blanket.  I will post a photo later this weekend, as my daughter-in-law reads my blogs sometimes and she doesn’t get a sneak peak!

I confess…. I am not going to make it to ladies bible study this morning because of that blanket.  But it has to be ready.  It is hard being the big sister with a new baby getting the attention, especially when you blend families, so I want her to feel extra special in her new role.  So I need to get back to my hooking here in a brief few minutes!

I confess…. I am NOT going to have an iPhone.  Just not caught up in the hoopla or sold on it.  After a side-by-side comparison online of iPhone 5, Droid Razr Maxx and the new Samsung Galaxy SIII….I am probably going with the Galaxy.  I am very familiar with Droid software, and in comparing them, I actually see little difference that matters except the price!  And I’m seeing more and more apps that were iPhone now coming out in Droid as it is being realized that not everyone thinks the iPhone is the end all.  It helped that my daughter, an iPhone owner, opted to go with the Galaxy SIII when her upgrade time came this past week.  And she loved her iPhone, but says she feels the Galaxy wins hands down. And this phone talks to you in that creepy lady voice too, and does face talk, and the battery life is nearly twice that of the iPhone 5. Right there is enough for me.

Okay, that is all I have for now.  Off to find my hook and yarn and finish these blankets!

Signing off,

The Happy, Somewhat Of A Nut Case, Hooker

10 Social Networking Sites/Apps

As part of the 100 Things I Love series, here are 10 social networking sites or apps that I’ve come to really enjoy! If they are underlined it is a link so you can check it out online.

TWITTER – I am very much Twiddicted, I tweet a lot, and follow people that tweet some fun stuff I like.  Some are family, some news, mostly just people that struck me as interesting or amusing.  Twitter is a 140 character mini-blog basically, and it is harmless fun.  Online or as an app, both ways are awesome.

Foursquare – I love this app.  You ‘check-in’ where you go and earn points, badges and if you check in the most, the Mayorship of the location.  I’ve stolen said Mayorship and had them stolen from me  several times.  It is absolutely pointless other than some places offer food or other specials when you check in or if you are the Mayor and check in.  Harmless fun for us easily amused types. This of course is an app.

Facebook – Facebook is kind of like an ongoing sitcom for me.  Or a never ending newsletter I can read on friends and family.  As busy as everyone seems to be it is one of the best ways to stay in touch with my cousins that I would really talk to otherwise.  Comes in online and app versions.

GetGlue – Another truly pointless site and app, you check-in when you are watching TV and earn stickers (glue).  I have multiple sheets of stickers for various shows and specific episodes of many of those shows…and not sure what I should do with them.  It’s fun to see how many others have checked in to see the same shows, but it is pretty pointless.  Online or app, whichever you prefer.

Pinterest – ERMAHGERD this is totally amazing.  Okay to me it is.  It is a pinboard for things you find online that you like and want to remember where  you saw them.  You categorize your pins to help you find them.  The best thing to do, if you are not familiar, is go look at mine by clicking the link.  I LOVE Pinterest.  I have all kinds of things pinned for crafts I want to do, room decor I like, even a dreamboard.  Online and available as an app for iPhone and Android!

Words With Friends – Available through Facebook online and as a app, it is scrabble against friends on your friend list.  I love it, but tend to forget that I need to go play it.  I’ve had numerous games going at once but I admit, I have a cheat site to help me.

Draw Something – Pictionary with your friends, also a great app, and one of my favorite ways to waste  time when I have nothing else to do.  Which lately isn’t very often.

HEYTELL – Basically it is voice texting.  I love it because I can talk a lot faster than I can type, and sometimes I just like hearing my kids voices rather than reading texts.  Especially useful when driving or busy and cannot type I can speak and send, then listen when the answer comes back. Rather cool if you ask me.

WAZE – I am new  to this one,  but I LIKE it!  Hard really to explain, but it will help you find your WAZE around town, bad traffic, speed traps etc. Best bet is to read the FAQ, as it seems you can find ‘treasures’ and win actual prizes. Go figure.

Texting – Last but not least, texting rocks.  I text a lot between my Avon team, family, friends etc.  Texting is my favorite, and easiest way to communicate with family and friends because calling, while far better, usually finds people busy, or like my brothers out on a fire run, it’s just easier if I text and they can return it when they have time.

By no means is this an exhaustive list, just the ones that come to mind.

T.G.I.F. In Zombielane

It is Friday, and I don’t need Martha Stewart to tell me that this is a VERY good thing.  It is bigger than that.

I have not been in bed before midnight all week.  Some nights well after that time.  My alarm clock goes off at 5:20am, which is a rude enough experience when I have had a full 8 hours of sleep.  At least I think so, hard to recall as that hasn’t happened in quite a while. When I’m dead to the world, sleep deprived and running on nothing (I used up the fuel and fumes by Wednesday having entered the week on only a partial tank), it can take an extensive number of hits to the  snooze alarm to surface enough to realize it is regretfully morning.   It was another one of those good things to discover my sister had the coffee maker all ready to roll this morning, because we’d have had serious issues if I had to count out scoops.  We have a Bunn home coffee maker, so no timer, but that beautiful piece of java technology produces a pot of hot,  liquid, wake-up-and-function in under 3 minutes.  I was lucky I could see straight  enough to pour the water in the top.

Speaking of the walking dead, I have officially retired from the Facebook game ZombieLane.  I cannot  do it anymore, it is a sheer waste of my time.  Not that all the games are anything more than time wasters, but this one exceeds that.  On top of it just not holding my interest, my inbox also fills up with emails from my dad, plotting strategy among his team members like he is the General Schwarzkopf of the game.  I just don’t have the  time to devote to it all so it’s been removed and blocked on my Facebook page.

While I’ve neglected my Words With Friends games, I’ve tapped into yet another addictive game.  Draw Something.  It’s like Pictionary for your phone.  My daughter and son play so I downloaded the app last night and connected via my Facebook. OHHHH EEEEMMMMM GEEEEEE!  Half my friends on there are playing this game!  I have 12 games going with friends now. Unreal, crazy, everyone-sucks-at-artistic-ability on this.  I love it. I just wish I had an iPhone now more than EVER!!!!  My Droid is nice but I would prefer the iPhone for this,  among other things. Like having Siri tell me where to bury the bodies so they go undiscovered.  No evidence  trail you know!

I really dislike rainy days so much.  Not only because it is dreary and depressing outside, and makes me want to spend the day in bed, and I don’t have that ability today.  Still working on jacking up my mojo, and nothing brings that back down faster than a gray day.

I’m a tad irritated with Hotmail today.  My account is acting up for some reason.   I can use it find on mobile but not on a computer.  GRRRRRRRRRRR!

I NEED A NAP!!!!!!!

Meet Me On Monday

It’s Meet Me on Monday!  If you tweet out your blog post, feel free to add #MMOM to your tweets and Acting Balanced will try to retweet for everyone from @chascouponmom

Based on the original Meet Me on Monday hosted by Java at Never Growing Old, she’ll post 5 questions on Sunday evening along with a linky for you to link up your post answers!  If you have suggestions for next week’s questions please feel free to leave a comment or shoot her a message on twitter or on the Acting Balanced Facebook Page

Here are today’s Questions:
1. What is on your bedside table?
2. Hardback, Paperback or E-Reader?
3. What is your ‘go to’ drink of choice?
4. How do you like to spend your birthday?
5. Finish this sentence – I would never be caught dead in …

Answer them on your blog and link up by clicking the icon below.

Acting Balanced

1.  What is on your bedside table?

I don’t have one, my vanity is sitting next to the bed.  On it is a collection of my nightly/daily skin care regimen products, 2 lamps, the dock for my cell phone that makes it double as a clock over night, my flash light hangs from one side of the mirror (cut kitten flash light because I am that cool as to have one) and the control for the electric blanket.

2.  Hardback, Paperback or E-Reader?

All of the above based on the availability of the book in either format.  I prefer my Kindle these days because it is easily slipped in my purse and my entire reading library is with me on the go.  Not to mention how many books fit on one as opposed to finding a place to put them in the house.

3.  What is your ‘go to’ drink of choice?

Well that depends.  For an adult beverage either beer or wine.  The rest of the day it is diet coke or coffee.  I know, I need to drink more water.

4.  How do you like to spend your birthday?

With friends and family, relaxed and NOT a big fuss made over it.  I hate surprises and so a surprise party would not make me happy. I’m just a low key type when it comes to that.

5.  Finish this sentence – I would never be caught dead in…

I would never be caught dead in….wow I have no idea.  I am sure there is something, something that if I were caught dead in it, because I was dead someone would have put me in it, I’d have to come back and haunt them.  But not sure what it is at the moment.
