Random Thoughts For 1/1/2017

I’m the only one awake at the moment here in the Diva Den. I was awake for the change of numbers at the end of the date, and then I went to bed. Being a very early riser for work (4am) I was wide awake at 6:30am today.  That darn little switch in the brain click to the “on” position and here I am, sipping coffee and doing laundry before I head over to watch my youngest grandchild.

Hot cup of fresh coffee on the wooden table and stack of books t2017..oh what will happen over the next 365 days? God only knows for certain, but I have a few predictions/thoughts and plans:

  • Mom will keep taking chemo, at least for a bit. The tumor has nested itself against her hip, so this latest chemo (the one that nearly killed her last summer) is being given in a reduced dose, spread over time, in the hopes it will shrink the tumor away from the bone so it doesn’t eat through and fracture the hip. We’ve dubbed it “Pandora” and we know in the end Pandora, being terminal, is going to win, but mom isn’t going down without a fight. I will be beyond happy if she is here to roll into 2018, but it is highly unlikely. Meanwhile we take it a day at a time, making memories in ways I never imagined.
  • I will be making better money as I get my certification to pass meds in Kentucky soon. I’ll keep working in memory care, where my heart now thrives with my adorable, challenging, if you don’t laugh about it you’ll cry, residents.
  • The shop is getting a serious focus, I’m going to be doing more research, pre-planning of what to make, and doing more to schedule releases of stock. I’m taking this more seriously now, not just a fun hobby to make a little pocket money, but to really focus on it as a business.
  • I’m leaving Avon behind. I love the products and believe it them, but I am one woman with entirely too many irons in the fires and need to simplify my life. With so much anticipated in this new year, I have to do some serious pruning.
  • Purge..that is the word, my word for 2017. Purging things I don’t need, wear, have time for…and it will include not just things but activities. If it isn’t building me up, doing something positive for my faith or life, it has to go. If I don’t wear it anymore, it doesn’t fit, whatever the case, gone it will be. This includes other blogs I have, those are being done away with and everything I do post will be here. It is possible I will keep a blog for the shop, but I’m not certain of that just yet. If my faith posts offend, well then I suppose folks will have to skip reading those.
  • In the spirit of simplifying my life, even my page here got a small makeover, just a cleaner look.
  • My novel…oh the changes I’ve made, rewrites, restarts…it will be written this year but with a new direction. I’ve started, stopped, changed things, and started again. But I’ve purged all of that and starting over. As for the non-fiction work? Well, there is much I could say about that, but it is suffice to say at Woman Camp this past Fall, with my church, I freed myself by God’s grace of the burden I was carrying. I thought writing it about it would be healing, but instead I talked to my new friends, other sisters in Christ, around a fire one afternoon. Then I walked through a guided process, alone on the edge of the woods, prayed, cried, prayed some more, then took the veil of guilt and shame that was covering me, and literally dropped it on a fire and watched it all blow away in black smoke that diminished and became clear, crisp air. I’m free from that, washed in the blood of Christ, it is behind me. Perhaps I will write about it one day, here in my blog, to help others be free of the veils holding them back. Time will tell, and God will direct that path.

My coffee has grown cold in my cup, the washer is finished, and I have to be over at my daughter’s in 2 hours to spend a day with my grandson while his brother and parents enjoy a football game.

Happy New Year to all, and God’s richest blessings upon each and every one of you reading this!

Sporting Pink & White Cheetah Jammies

Last night we finished the last episode of Blue Bloods on Netflix. We divas are huge fans of the show so we started at the very beginning and watched each season, a few episodes a night, over the past few weeks.  Once we finished, we were a bit bored.  Boredom and the Diva Den are not a very good combo.

3 of us are into Pokemon GO, so we went out hunting them, after dark, around midnight, after a thunderstorm, on our street. Because? Well a Pikachu was in our vicinity and we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to catch one! My niece was in shorts and a jersey, sis was wearing white jammie pants with tiny, navy blue hearts and navy blue top, also navy slippers.  Me? The fashionista that I am, wore a black jammie top, baggie pink and white jammie pants with black cheetah print on them, black slippers with giant, hot pink bows on them (Hello Kitty baby!), what can I say, I looked hot of course! Our neighbors already think we are a bunch of crazy cat women, why disappoint. We did not get the Pikachu though, too bad.

20160730_103020-1And now? Same jammies, bed head, with my pink, Hello Kitty coffee mug full of my favorite daytime beverage, and a colby cheese on wheat toast sandwich.  I know, you are jealous, but not everyone can be this sexy and cool. Just embrace your own inner freak and it will be okay. (those spots are not on the top, but on the mirror, which I clearly need to clean!)

I’m on day 2 of 7 off in a row! I need this break, not only to crochet and work on items for my shop, but to physically recover from working this job. My 53yo body cannot take a lot of that for an extended time without some chance to recover.

Now that the delivery has been made, I wanted to share the custom order By Hook & By Hand made. We were a tad nervous about how it would turn out in the earthy tones, especially for a baby blanket, but we were very pleased. The new mommy was too! Delivered in person, I got to meet and hold the little man who will snuggle in this blanket for many years to come, and see it in his room which is very close in color to the green in the blanket.

Coming soon, another Bavarian throw, a new baby blanket, more wash clothes and scrubbies, a poncho, and one very cool Halloween throw.  Hoping to get a lot accomplished while off these remaining 6 days. Boo is working on the Halloween one at this writing, and I’m hooking the Bavarian.  Coffee and hooking, the best therapy ever! Time to get to it, this day is slipping away fast. Y’all have a great one!

Back To Sneeze, Cough, Blow…UGH

Nothing says hello Spring like allergies going nuts.  Mine are out of control.  At least I assume that is it, I really don’t feel bad other than my head is stuffy, nose running, and coughing up yuck.  Oh, and my voice taking its semi-annual hiatus.  I cannot sleep well because I cannot breathe, so I am tired.  This just sucks.

I’ve been working a lot, and when not working just being.  Life is just nuts it seems. I don’t feel like doing a lot to be honest.  But then came the annual all-church journey again, so now I have a direction.  I’m going to be Brave, and attempt to get my non-fiction book finished. I also want to build up my Avon business.  Means I need to focus on my One Word for this year, 4 months into it already, DISCIPLINE.  And that is the very last thing I wanted to do, get disciplined and actually do something.

I believe it is a good thing to mentally and physically just exist, take a  break from everything in life outside of what you must do, like earn a living.  Trouble is being careful not to unpack and live in that space and time.  I’ve cleaned my room, purged my closet, started working on projects for my Etsy store, started ramping up my AVON business again, and now I’m going to focus on writing a book.  Hey, nothing like zero to ninety over night! This is going to be interesting.

Meanwhile? Well work is awesome.  No really, it is.  Sure, I feed adults, change their diapers, bathe them, help them to the bathroom, get them dressed, transport them around the facility as needed, keep an eye on things their nurses need to know, talk with them, love on them…and it really is an incredible job.  I leave there knowing I did something that matters that day.  I only wish it wasn’t so darn physical because at nearly 53 it is killing me!  I log 20,000+ steps in a work day, pull, push, roll folks and their chairs weighing as much as 275 pounds for 12.5 hours. But I cannot imagine not doing it.  I work with a great team of aides, especially the other half of Team M&M (Marti and Marianne).  I’m actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow and Sunday because she and I get it done together.  I wish I had found this long ago!

I’ll keep you updated on the book progress, and if you want to purchase any lipstick, you know where to find me!

Oh, How Pinteresting

I found a new meme/hop to participate in on Wednesdays! My “Wine & Cheese” blog post will be up later today, but for now here are some of the things I’ve pinned lately that I want to try, remember or just thought rocked.

Because nothing beats working out and watching one of my favorite shows on TV

I LOVE unique pieces of jewelry and this one doesn’t require gaging my ear!

I thought it would make an awesome addition to my Etsy shop of handmade crochet items in the near future.

I thought this was SUCH a cool idea that I made them as Christmas gifts. Instead of gluing stuff to the frames, I gave lots of scenic background paper to enable the receivers to change it up a bit.  Included dry erase markers and walla, instant message boards.

This just cracked me up.

My sister-in-law does seedlings each year, and I thought of her, how easy it would be to start them in ice cream cones then just plant the entire cone, since it will dissolve in the ground!

Again, just made me laugh, I have a warped sense of humor.

Seriously adorable shoes!27936460160169837_EXMuGL8j_b

Being that I am a self proclaimed princess, thought I deserved a crown. But want to keep it somewhat inconspicuous as it would be rude to flaunt my royalty.  😉
