Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me – hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic.

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four standard questions you answered! Grab the badge on either of their pages for your post if you like and link up for the MQAM.

Here are the Questions:

1. What is your favorite pair of shoes?

2. Do you get embarrassed easily?

3. What makes you cringe?

4. July 29th is National Lasagna day… are you celebrating?  What kind of lasagna do you prefer?

My answers:

1. What is your favorite pair of shoes?

Wow, my gym shoes I guess.  I recently purchased a great pair from Avon that slip on.  I love them.  My next pair will be a pair I found from Skechers that I HAVE to have because they are cute, comfy and of course they have pink on them.

3d31045e4b3e0768254893bcd1b7c7cf (1)

2. Do you get embarrassed easily?

Na, not really.  I used to be very hard to make blush, but not embarrass.  I was pretty jaded a number of years back so you would have work rather hard to make me blush.  Now, I’ve softened and while not embarrassed I do blush pretty easily.

3. What makes you cringe?

Hmmm…may have to get back to you on that.  Nothing coming to mind at the moment.

4. July 29th is National Lasagna day… are you celebrating?  What kind of lasagna do you prefer?

That would be a big ‘NO’.  He is making chicken of some kind tonight for dinner.  He is a good cook so when the opportunity is there for him to do so, I love it.  Not that I’m a bad cook but he just is better.  For now, I plan to look into cooking classes with my sister-in-law, I am growing to actually enjoy preparing food, something I hated for years.

BONUS QUESTION – THIS IS ONE FOR YOU, THE READER TO ANSWER:

5.  Do you enjoy getting time at home, alone, no kids or significant other, for a stretch of time? And if so, what do you like to do during that “me” time?

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me – hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic.

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that those participating answer.  We all post a 5th question for YOU, the readers, to answer in the comment section.  Click the badge above to link up and read up!

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1. What is your favorite summer activity?
2. Do you have a honey-do list? or a to-do-list of your own?
3. Would you go for a massage?  Facial?  Spa treatment?
4. What was the last song you danced to?

MY ANSWERS:

1. What is your favorite summer activity?

Not certain what that would be other than NOT whining about how cold it is?  I hate being cold, makes the arthritis in my hands, neck and back even worse.  And therefore, while gorgeous to look at, I hate snow because I’m required to actually go outside in it.  I rarely comment on how hot it is in the summer because I’d rather be sitting there sweating than be cold.  Oh sure cooking out is great but 3 foot of snow wouldn’t stop me from making my way to the grill for a good steak, never has.  Hmm…in all honesty that would have been my sister most recently, but I cheered her on from the door!  🙂

2. Do you have a honey-do list? or a to-do-list of your own?

Na, HoneyBabyMine the Knight does more than I could ever ask for, he doesn’t need a list.  I do make lists for myself, however, as I’d forget my own name some days if it wasn’t on my driver’s license to remind me.  Lately I have taken to using Evernote, and I LOVE it.  Talk about being mega organized, and it all syncs between my phone, laptop and Kindle Fire.

3. Would you go for a massage?  Facial?  Spa treatment?

Hmm…never had a massage but sounds delightful if I can find a female masseuse.  I am real funny about people I don’t know being in my personal space, and even more select as to who I allow to touch me.  Not real big on the idea of a strange man touching me even in a professional manner.  Heck my OB-GYN is a female for that very reason.  As far as spa treatments go, I think a day at the spa is a ridiculously over priced deal.  Give me my home spa with essential oils and I’m just fine, thanks.

4. What was the last song you danced to?

Wow that would be Good Morning – by Mandisa, LOVE that song and I put it on and dance around the office a bit to wake up and set my tone for the day.

OKAY YOUR TURN, ANSWER THE FOLLOWING!!!

5.  You go the mailbox and find a letter to you with no return address.  Inside is $1,000 and a note saying you may not spend it on bills but can use it on anything else you would like, as it is a treat for you.  What do you spend it on?

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

It’s Monday, time for quizzes.  No worries, everyone passes, just click the badge above to link up and answer.

Everyone adds their on 5th question for readers to answer so in the comments, answer question number 5!

Here are the Questions:

1. June 26th is Forgiveness Day – will you be participating?  Forgiving someone else or asking for forgiveness?

2. Do you play card games?  Which ones are your favorite?

3. What is your favorite flavor of Birthday Cake?

4. Do you like amusement park rides?  What is your favorite?  If not, why not?

My answers:

1. June 26th is Forgiveness Day – will you be participating?  Forgiving someone else or asking for forgiveness?

Forgiveness is a choice and a process.  Certainly there are folks I have opted to forgive and some days (today is no exception) I need to remind myself that the past is just that, PASSED, let it go and move on. I wish them only good things and have learned to even pray for nothing but good to come their way.  Beyond that, it is between them and their Maker.

2. Do you play card games?  Which ones are your favorite?

This is interesting considering my son recently polled his Facebook followers in search of Euchre players.  I joke that my marriage nearly ended in divorce when the ex-hubs tried to teach me to play, it didn’t end well.  He is not the best instructor and my brain simply could not wrap around it.   Funny thing is, however, I love playing Rook, which is so similar to Euchre that one would think I could pick it up.

3. What is your favorite flavor of Birthday Cake?

The kind full of calories, fat, sugar and real bakery icing.  Not the whipped kind, but the kind that is so sweet it almost makes your teeth hurt!  Or REAL butter cream icing.  In other words, there is no particular flavor that is above any other when it comes to birthday cake, as long as it is GOOD.

4. Do you like amusement park rides?  What is your favorite?  If not, why not?

That would be a huge NO!  I am deathly afraid of heights, do not care for going upside down, and if you spin me in a circle I’ll hurl up the entire contents of my digestive track from my stomach to my arse!  I’m a pure waste of money when it comes to going to the amusement park.

And now, the bonus question for readers to answer in the comments:

5.  If you could start any business (and be assured success) what would you chose to start and why?

Monday Quiz About Me

Add a 5th question on your post for your readers to answer in the comment section, and be sure to answer #5 on mine, in my comment section.  Come on now, show some LOVE and if you stopped by, answer that question for me!

THE QUESTIONS:
1. June 17th is Eat Your Vegetables Day… do you need a special day to celebrate veggies? Your favorite veg?

2. How did you spend your Father’s Day?  Or for those who don’t have Father’s Day on June 16th, what did you do this weekend?

3. June 18th is National Splurge Day… if you were (are) going to participate what would/will you splurge on?

4. What is the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?

My answers:

1. June 17th is Eat Your Vegetables Day… do you need a special day to celebrate veggies? Your favorite veg?

Na, I love veggies! Just about any one of them rocks with me.  Favorite is a toss up between corn and lima beans.  Mix them together and oh I am in veggie heaven.

2. How did you spend your Father’s Day?  Or for those who don’t have Father’s Day on June 16th, what did you do this weekend?

In the morning, the Knight’s kids were with us.  After they left we went to my brother’s and saw his crew, my mom and my dad.  My sister-in-law made enough food to feed a small army, all of which was AMAZINGLY good, especially the grilled items.  Thanks again Yatz & Angie for the hospitality.  Some day my sister will be at the same place at the same time so she can meet the Knight.

3. June 18th is National Splurge Day… if you were (are) going to participate what would/will you splurge on?

Not even certain, to be entirely honest.  I hate shopping for clothes so that would never be on the list.  Maybe a new set of gel nails?  I do need them and keep putting it off because I hate spending the money.  But I LOVE having them, they make me feel feminine.  I enjoy being girlie!

4. What is the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?

Jamaica, which I would love to visit again!  The people there are so amazing, treated us like royalty and the country is so beautiful.

Bonus question – your turn to respond!!!! Just answer in the comment section please!!

5.  If you could have any unconventional/exotic pet, what would you have for your pet?

Monday Quiz About Me

It’s Monday which is quiz day.  Not sure what to write about but want to post something?  This is your hop/meme. Click the icon above and come link up. Acting Balanced posts the first 4 questions and you make up a 5th question for those reading your blog to answer in the comment section, so be sure you do that as you move around.

Here are the Questions:

1.  June 10th is Iced Tea Day – do you drink iced tea?  Sweet or unsweet?  Flavoured?

2. What would be an essential for you to survive a long airplane flight?

3.  How do you explain wanting an iron to someone who does not speak English?

4.  Should smoking be allowed in restaurants?

**And the bonus question for readers to answer below in the comments**

5.  Who or what is your go to when you need a little inspiration in your day to get your motivation mojo on?

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1.  June 10th is Iced Tea Day – do you drink iced tea?  Sweet or unsweet?  Flavoured?

Yes I love iced tea!  I grew up drinking mint iced tea because my grandma on dad’s side made it.  Everyone in the family at some point had taken a cut of the mint plant and started growing it to make grandma’s tea.  She would cut and dry the mint to be able to make it all year round, it is kind of a family tradition.  I will need to start my own mint plant here soon at the Castle so that I can make it.  It is sweetened, so I have to be careful not to over do it or the weight I am losing will be back.

2. What would be an essential for you to survive a long airplane flight?

Xanex and a few very strong drinks.  No really, the other passengers get very disturbed by my being curled up in the fetal position on the floor sobbing and sucking my thumb.  I HATE flying, it terrifies me and never gets any easier for me.  I have found that the Xanex and a couple of shots of whiskey = the Marvelous one will sleep like a baby all the way to the landing of the plane.

3.  How do you explain wanting an iron to someone who does not speak English?

Acting it out!  I think I could easily express it to someone that I needed an iron through actions.

4.  Should smoking be allowed in restaurants?

Yes.  Let me explain. I am not a smoker and do not like being around it at any time but especially when eating.  However I do not believe the powers that be should make it illegal to smoke where folks eat, leave that to  each individual establishment to determine if they will be smoking, non-smoking, or have designated smoking sections.  There is NO proof whatsoever that second hand smoke causes cancer, that is a complete bogus claim.  There are beliefs and theories but so far no proof.  Not to mention that often the food those folks are consuming in the smoke free environment are doing far more damage to their bodies by clogging arteries etc.  Places that opt to remain smoke free will draw customers like me, who do not smoke and don’t want to be around it while eating.  Those that allow it will draw smokers.

YOUR TURN – ANSWER THE NEXT ONE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION:

5.  Who or what is your go to when you need a little inspiration in your day to get your motivation mojo on?

I have several.  I will go to Youtube and watch either Patsy Clairmont or Amanda Gore.  Both are hilarious women.

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

It is Monday and that means the Quiz hosted over on Acting Balanced.  Click to icon to join in and link up or just read other’s answers.  Also, don’ t forget that participants supply their own 5th question so those reading and hopping around can answer it in the comments section.

Here are the Questions:

1. June 3rd is National Repeat Day – what word or phrase do you find yourself repeating? I repeat…
2. Who do you feel is a real hero?
3. Are you interested in traveling to countries where most people don’t speak the same language as you?

4. It’s also dairy month – what is your favorite dairy or dairy-like (for you vegans and allergy sufferers) food or recipe?

~*~

1.  June 3rd is National Repeat Day – what word or phrase do you find yourself repeating? I repeat…

Yikes, it’s one I really am trying hard to drop from my use entirely.  “What The F*ck?????” rolls out of my mouth a LOT.  Not a very lady-like, classy thing to hear out of the mouth of the Marvi one, I know.  Even saying “WTF” is still saying it, so I’m working on dropping it entirely but wow is it a tough habit to break.  Especially working with all men in the construction industry, they drop the F-bomb every few words some days.

2.  Who do you feel is a real hero?

Easily answered – real heros of course are those serving our country, have served our country, and our cops and firefighters.  Also – the spouses of those individuals are my personal heros.  I know what it is like to wonder if your other half is going to come home to you, while you hold down the home front, celebrate many holidays and birthdays and even your anniversary alone while they are off putting their life on the line.  So, that said, my daughter and daughter-in-law are my heros as they kiss their men good-bye and pray God brings them safely back to them at the end of their shift.

3.  Are you interested in traveling to countries where most people don’t speak the same language as you?

I have several countries I’d like to visit, and the language is not an issue.  I’m not going to travel alone anyway and language is just a challenge that adds to the charm of the place being visited.

4.  It’s also dairy month – what is your favorite dairy or dairy-like (for you vegans and allergy sufferers) food or recipe?

Dairy = ICE CREAM!  It is a temptation I find so very hard to resist.  I try to avoid going past Dairy Queen near the office, because it calls to my like a siren luring a sailor into her destructive grip.

And now, my 5th question for visitors to answer while stopping by:

5.  What is one word that those who know you best would never use when describing you? – explain!

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

It is time for the Monday Quiz About Me sponsored by Acting Balanced.  You can join in and link up by clicking the icon above.  She provides the first 4 questions, we each add a 5th question for our readers to answer.  So,with further ado, here are the Questions:

1. What did you do for Mother’s Day?
2. What was the best advice your mother (or a mother figure) gave you?
3. Are you gardening this year?  What have you/will you plant?
4. What is the first song that comes to mind today?

And don’t forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

1.  What did you do for Mother’s Day?

I spent the day with my daughter.  She took me down to Metamora, Indiana to browse shops and have lunch.  I very much enjoy her company and we always laugh a lot when together.  While there I found a really sweet sounding wind chime for my mom for Mother’s Day.  I knew I’d find something down there for her.

2. What was the best advice your mother (or a mother figure) gave you?

Probably the best piece of advice was the same I heard from my grandpa (her dad), “If you don’t have something nice to say, it isn’t necessary to say anything at all.”  We call it the Thumper Rule now, as that is the advice the little rabbit from Bambi shared that his mother had taught him.  If I kept my mouth shut more often I’d be far better off.

3. Are you gardening this year?  What have you/will you plant?

Not a darn thing.  I have a black thumb. Really, when I walk into a garden center all the plants run the other way screaming, “no, not me not me”.  I can kill a silk plant, honestly.

4. What is the first song that comes to mind today?

Oh that is easy, Miranda Lambert’s, “Mama’s Broken Heart”.  It reminds me of how I was after my marriage ended.

**Bonus Question** Please take time to answer in the comment section!

5.  What one, small thing could you do today to make someone else’s day better today? (now that you mention it, go do it!)

Roll ’em!
Here are the Questions:

1.  If you could go to any festival or event in the world; which one would you choose?

2. What is the first sign you see that tells you spring is near?

3. When you were in school did you do your projects as soon as they were assigned or as close to the last minute as possible?

4. Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds?

***BONUS QUESTION***

5.  We walk out right now to your car and open the trunk. What do we find in there?

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1.  If you could go to any festival or event in the world; which one would you choose?

It is a toss up really of 2 different events, both are on my bucket list at the moment.  The first is Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  I would love to attend sometime.  The other is the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.

2. What is the first sign you see that tells you spring is near?

Our trees bloom in the spring around our deck. Once the buds start to appear I know Old Man Winter is getting ready to exit stage left and not a moment too soon for my taste.

3. When you were in school did you do your projects as soon as they were assigned or as close to the last minute as possible?

That would depend on the project…and if it was grade school, high school or college.  In grade school I was middle of the road.  High school was dependent upon the subject/class as some things I hated so I didn’t do them until the last possible moment.  In college (I didn’t go to college until I was 37yo) I started them immediately and finished far in advance of the due date.  Amazing what the maturity of growing up will do.

4. Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds?

Being invisible would be so much more fun.  Sometimes it is best not to know what others are thinking. It would be better to be present to hear and see things, not to mention the fun of being able to mess with someone by moving things behind their back etc.  Waaahaahaaa!

5.  We walk out right now to your car and open the trunk. What do we find in there?

3 or 4 blue surgical gloves – the ex left them in the trunk, from his pants pockets when he road the ambulance. I keep them in case I need to put oil in my car engine to keep my hands clean.

An umbrella.

Those ‘go green’ style grocery bags that are reusable but never are remembered when I go into a grocery store.

An ice scrapper.

Contrary to popular belief there is NO dead body in my trunk, though the list of candidates for said position grows daily.

Here are the Questions:

1. Who was the last person you said ‘I love you to?’
2. What was the last non-kid friendly movie you saw?
3. When was the last time you got angry about something that you felt silly about later?
4. Where is your favorite object at this moment?

And don’t forget to answer the 5th question in the comment section if you are visiting!

1. Who was the last person you said ‘I love you to?’

My daughter when I ran into her while out shopping this weekend.  She thought I went into a store in a strip mall as she was pulling in so she tried to stalk me.  Finally she gave up and called my cell phone only to find out I was in an adjacent store.  We ended up at the same nail salon later.

2. What was the last non-kid friendly movie you saw?

I honestly have NO idea. I am not much of one for going to movies.  I enjoyed taking my granddaughter to see one but I haven’t gone for myself in a long time.  Mostly I am into several TV shows, like The Walking Dead, which are not, in my opinion, kid friendly.

3. When was the last time you got angry about something that you felt silly about later?

WOW that would be hard to say too. Anymore I don’t get angry often, and if I do it is over legit issues.  I just get annoyed and that is usually over something silly.  Recently I was annoyed with myself for reaching out to a former friend who does nails at her house (most likely illegally as I am pretty certain she hasn’t kept up her continuing ed to keep her license and I am also pretty sure you cannot do nails out of your house).  I know her husband is working 2 jobs to keep them afloat in this crap economy and thought maybe she could use the money.  She was, without a doubt, the best nail tech I know of, but she turned me down despite it being a nice sum of money (I checked the going rate in some of the high end salons) I was willing to pay.  Later I was annoyed for even asking, knowing that I’d be subject to sitting in her kitchen listening to her bad-mouth people while doing my nails.  She is the “queen” of drama stirring, gossip and back stabbing.  I’ve since found a great tech and was irritated with myself for offering good money to someone who has done nothing but fabricate lies about me since she has met me, and I have the ‘knife wounds’ in my own back to prove it.  I have a soft spot for idiots, fools, and losers.

4. Where is your favorite object at this moment?

My new Kindle Fire HD. My last Kindle was in my backpack on a road trip aboard a friend’s Harley, and we were unaware it and our helmets (we only wear them in helmet states – as frankly at 65+mph if you lay that bike down a helmet is not going to likely save your life, only contain all the brain matter until it is poured on a coroner’s table), had become detached on the highway somewhere around Louisville, Kentucky.  I’ve missed my Kindle very much, and while waiting to save up for a new one, they came out with the Fire HD version.  OMG I am in a very close relationship with this thing now.  Last night I sat up watching season 1 of Downton Abbey, as I kept hearing of so many watching it that I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about.  HOLY MOTHER OF OUTSTANDING shows!  PBS Masterpiece Theater Classics always rock and this is no exception.  I have several seasons to catch up on but it is worth it.  Oh, and I also have a huge list of books re-loaded now and going with me everywhere I roam, as I have so much reading to catch up on!

*****BONUS QUESTION for those hopping by to answer here in the comments:******

5.  What are 3 modern conveniences that you cannot imagine living without?

The microwave – I am learning what that is like, as ours first became possessed (ran when you opened the door so you had to grab fast to catch your coffee cup handle as it spun past), then just died altogether. I’m so missing my popcorn!!!

The coffee maker – We have a Bunn home coffee maker and it is the total bomb. Makes a full pot in less than 3 minutes.  We also have a Keurig, which is about the best machine to be manufactured since….well ever!  We are rarely without a pot of coffee on in this house, we’re a bunch of caffeine addicts.

Smart phone – I LOVE my phone.   Currently I have the Galaxy SIII and it is sweet.  My daughter, the former iPhone junkie, jumped ship and went to the Galaxy SIII and loves it way more than she did her iPhone so when it was time for me to upgrade I bought the same phone.  I love the communication abilities it affords me.  I can do a good portion of my job via my phone as it is really a small computer that we can use to make a phone call.  Not only texting but Skype with folks so I can see them while talking, I can watch Netflix movies on it…the darn thing is just amazing!  Smart Phones are the best!!!!!  If you have one, regardless of which one, you know what I mean!

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me – hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four standard questions you answered!  Click the badge above to go to the hostess and link up.

Here are the Questions:

1. Are you good about going to the doctor?
2. What do you think about the practice of restaurants adding automatic tips for large groups or specific events?
3. When was the last time you went out for dinner?
4. What is your best budget saving tip for recovering from an unexpected expense or planning for one?

And don’t forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

1. Are you good about going to the doctor?

Hmm…if I am sick, like really sick, then yes.  Otherwise I tend to self medicate.  Oh and of course the “annual icky” but that one is not as consistent as it should be.  But I had a hysterectomy so I don’t really sweat that one.

2. What do you think about the practice of restaurants adding automatic tips for large groups or specific events?

I don’t mind it at all.  I know so many people who wait tables, and honestly folks are crappy tippers.  Especially in large groups.  Sadly, the worst are women!!!  These people generally make far below minimum wage and depend on tips.  I also do not hold it against my waitress if the kitchen screws up.

3. When was the last time you went out for dinner?

Several times just last week!  My boss and I have been burning the evening candles, so to speak, working through dinner at a few favorite places to munch.

4. What is your best budget saving tip for recovering from an unexpected expense or planning for one?

I weigh things out…are they needs or wants.  Needs come first.  Wants then get rated on a scale of 1-10.  I have lots of things I want but I usually talk myself out of them. Oh and I always wait for a sale, never pay full price for anything!

BONUS QUESTION FOR COMMENTS SECTION FROM READERS:

5.  In keeping with question 4, what one “I want it so bad” item do you keep talking yourself out of buying but really wish you had right now?

A Kindle Fire HD with 32GB and the bigger screen.
