Day 13 – A Fictional Book

ALL ABOUT ME IN 30 DAYS

Day 13 – A Fictional Book

I am assuming that this is supposed to be a favorite book.  I actually have a series that is my favorite but the very first book of the series was the one that hooked me in, Dark Prince by Christine Feehan.  Somewhat of a fan of paranormal and vampire stories, this got my attention when my friend, Cathy, told me about it.  Yes it is full of steamy stuff but not too graphic, it is a romance series full of strong men, strong women that are under the protection of their mates, shape shifting, mind speak, vampires, committed love and good verses evil.  While the main characters, a race known as Carpathain, are blood feeders, they don’t turn vampire unless they fail to find their lifemate and resort to killing those they feed upon.  At that time they become the undead,  enemies to both Carpathian and human alike.

Heavy on the romantic side, the Carpathian male binds his lifemate to himself permanently after 3 blood exchanges and speaking their ritual binding words.  Fans of the book tend to agree that the  words would make beautiful wedding vows by any groom to his bride:

I claim you as my lifemate.
I belong to you.
I offer my life for you.
I give to you my protection, my allegiance, my heart, my soul, and my body.
I take into my keeping the same that is yours.
Your life, happiness, and welfare will be cherished and placed above my own for all time.
You are my lifemate, bound to me for all eternity and always in my care.

Day 12 – Something I Am OCD About

All About Me  In 30 Days – Day 12

I first want to qualify that I am not truly OCD, at least I don’t think so, about anything.  Not in the true definition of OCD at least.

But I AM picky about certain things being a certain way.  One thing I am OCD about is my bed.  It has to be made every day shortly after I get up.  I cannot and will not get into the bed if it has not been made.  I am not sure why this is but my bed must be made  before I can get into it.

Part of it, in my opinion, goes back to my feeling that my bedroom should be my nest, my haven, my safe place.  I like my room to be in order, things put away and the room clean.  It gives me a sense of peace when I am in my room.  I chose the color to help bring about warm and happy feelings, picked my bedding because when I saw it, it sparked good feelings.  Things being put away and in order helps with that peacefulness.

I’ve always felt that the bedroom should be special.  If married it should be a warm, inviting, restful place.  Again, a nest and haven for the couple.  It should be off limits to the rest of the family and to friends.  Oh, and no animals.  For now, because I am single,  I really do not mind my cat being in my room, or the other cats that come in and sleep on the bed with me.  But if I were married again, no animals share the bed or the room.  Rover and the kittens can sleep in the guest room, on the floor outside the master bedroom, anywhere they like except mine and the spouse’s room.

The center of the bedroom is the bed, so the bed MUST be made.  No ifs, ands,  or buts about it.

Day 11 – A Photo Of Me Recently

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 11

This is not a favorite day in the “All About Me In 30 Days” challenge.  Mostly because I believe the past year has aged me rapidly as I worked through the pain of my divorce.  But I also grew and matured in areas that make up for that.  I don’t like the idea of aging gracefully, I want to fight it every step of the way.  But the reality is I am getting older and need to just accept that I suppose.

So  here are some photos from Christmas Eve this year, that is about as recent as it gets!

Mr. Wonderful and Me!!!

Christmas Eve was a complete blast around here.  I am so happy that Mr. Wonderful was a part of my holidays, it was a lot of fun and I love having him around.  One thing I noted, I am the only blond left in the Diva Den, all the other girls dye their hair brown in winter.  Hmm…maybe I should give it a try?

Day 10 – A Photo Taken Over 10 Years Ago Of Me

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 10

WOW this one got me feeling old real fast!  This photo was taken at my friend, Lori Laux’s wedding. I was one of the wedding party.  It isn’t the full shot, that is on my home computer and I’m at lunch at the moment at work but you get the idea.  I had the whole big hair thing going on and thinking this was about 18/19 years ago.  I’m guessing because my daughter was a toddler at the time.

Day 9 – A Photo I Took

All About Me  In 30 Days – Day 9

OH this one is so easy for me, it is the one photo I have taken that I most love, because it doesn’t look like someone without a clue about photography took it.  I didn’t plan it, just turned around in my chair while at breakfast one  morning in Jamaica and snapped it.

We were in Jamaica, Oracabessa to be exact, at a very beautiful estate called Golden Clouds for a wedding.  We were there for 7 glorious days in what is the closest thing to Paradise I have ever found.  I was eating breakfast one morning on the terrace and just took the picture. No plan, no attempts to get anything in particular in the shot, and this is what I ended up with!  I submitted it a few years back to Kate Dot Net for use as a wallpaper and she used it for the August calendar wallpaper that year.  I’ve used it as my computer background in summer for years when I’m longing for the ocean.

Day 8 – A Photo That Makes Me Angry/Sad

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 8

Today’s photo could be one that makes me angry or sad.  I went through the countless photos I have looking for ones that brought either reaction.  Oddly enough none really made me angry, but a number of them made me just a little sad.  Oh I smile when I see them, but my heart is a little blue when I think about them.  And once again there are many as opposed to one, I can never pick just one of anything so I’ll share a few and the story behind them.

If you click them you can see each full size.

This photo was taken after we returned from the emergency room.  This is my son sporting these lovely injuries.  His top two middle teeth are broken off leaving behind roughly 1/3 of one and 1/4 of the other though he refused to smile.  Thankfully the next morning was a Friday and our dentist spent several long hours rebuilding them and when it was all said and done no one would ever know. There are about 6 stitches in his chin, 2 broken arms (the swelling had to go down before they could cast them) and enough abrasions to make it in the running for ‘Road Rash Poster Child’ of that year.  He flipped his bike when his sister stopped suddenly in front of him.  Up until this time he had never been seriously injured (his guardian angels worked in tag teams thankfully).  He is 12 here and it always makes me a little sad when I see it because he was in a lot of pain and no mama wants to see their child suffering.

This is a photo of my daughter (far right) and her 3 friends (left to right: Jackalyn, Jenna and Rebecca).  My daughter is about 14 in this photo, her friends a bit younger.  I referred to them as my daughter and the impostor  daughters 1, 2 and 3,  because they all called me mom.  This group would spend the night on the weekends and never sleep, but the laughter and giggles would go on the entire time.  I loved those times, I’d laugh listening to them all laughing.  I get a little sad because they are all growing up (my baby is 20 now) and the fearsome foursome no longer are friends.  I miss those days a lot at times.

This photo of my daughter and Jenna makes me very sad.  For years Jenna was a nearly constant weekend presence in our home and in summer sometimes days on end.  And she is hilarious, her sense of humor is rich and free flowing.  She and Liesl would be laughing non-stop and again, the giggles were contagious and kept us laughing.  Jenna referred to my husband, Pete, as Stevie though there was never any explanation for that.  Something went wrong between the two about 2 years ago and they stopped talking.  It broke my heart to see Jenna longing for my daughter’s forgiveness and friendship, something that never has come about.  I always pray this will some day be forgotten and the two will become friends again.

These two photos make me smile, laugh, and get a little sad all at the same time.  From left to right is my brother, Mike (#3 in birth order), me, my sister, Jeannette (#4, aka: Diva Boo), and my brother, George (#2, aka: Yatz).  This was a number of years back, about 5 now I’m thinking.  It makes me smile because I dearly love my siblings and most of the time we have a lot of laughs together, like in the photos.   It also makes me sad that we do not get to spend as much time together as I would like, with everyone having jobs, kids to raise, a lives to live.

The writing prompts for photos are always fun, I  love walking down memory lane every once in a while, it makes me appreciate the blessings in my life, and of those I have many!

Day 7 – A Photo That Makes Me Happy

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 7

This is one of those topics in the All About Me series that is difficult.  I have a LOT of photos that make me happy.  So, I refuse to pick just one because I’m like that, incorrigible to a fault, I just have to do things MY way.  🙂

So here are a few photos that make me happy and a brief explanation as to why.

This is my Charlie Brown Christmas tree sitting on my dresser in my room.  Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas shows and I just thought it was a hoot when someone decided to market the tree.  My sister bought it for me and those are the reasons why this photo makes me happy.

🙂

The family room at the Diva Den.  It makes me happy when I see this photo because this house is so full of fun, laughter and love.  I love having a fire place and I LOVE Christmas.  It is SO wonderful to be in a home where everyone just loves the holidays.  We have lots of elves in this house but not a single Scrooge.

🙂

This picture makes me happy because it is typically where I find my cat, Pixel, in places she knows she should NOT be.  This was taken this Fall when I went in my room in the morning after getting coffee and found her sitting on the dresser.  She likes to get up there and knock things off the dresser when I’m sleeping in the morning if she feels it is way past the time for me to be awake.  She has learned this method is effective, it gets a response and I finally give up and get out of bed.

🙂

And this photo always makes me smile because one of Pixel’s favorite games is peek-a-boo. She gets in between the 10 (yes 10) pillows on my bed and hides.  She thinks I cannot see her peeking out between the pillows waiting for me to get close, then she reaches out a paw and quickly pokes me and vanishes back between them.  She thinks she is so stealthy!  It IS a fun game and she is so playful that it makes me happy when I see it, reminding me when all else fails, the cat loves me!

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 6

Day 5 – My Favorite Quote

All About Me In 30 Days – Day 5

Wow, narrowing down my favorite quote, is about like trying to  chose a favorite book.  Not likely there is just one.  In fact there are many so I’ll just get on with it and list a few:

Day 4 – My Favorite Book

All About Me In 30 Days – Day4

Seriously???? I have to pick just ONE? IMPOSSIBLE!

I LOVE to read and it would be impossible to pick out one book that stands above the others as my favorite.  Instead I can list a bunch of them that I really loved reading, some that I have reread and others I will read again when time allows.

The entire Harry Potter series, it was great!

The Dark Series books by Christine Feehan, those are just awesome and I want a man like that as a life mate! (well I found the man it is the life mate part that I can only dream about for now!)

The Twilight Series – yes, good bunch of books, not FAB but good!

Bamboo & Lace by Lori Wick – a very very good, Christian romance author and that is one of my favorites of hers.

Pretense – also by Lori Wick, totally amazing but be warned you will need tissues handy to read that one!
