Questions for Friday, January 20th:
1. Where do you hide the reeeally good snacks?

2. Do u keep your vehicle clean or am I the only one who has things falling out of their van?

3. Have you ever been to Vegas?

4. Warm room light blankets or cold room warm snuggly blanket?

5. What is the worst airplane/flying experience you’ve ever had?

————————————————–

1.  Where do you hid the reeally good snacks?

I don’t hide snacks, but chocolate? Oh yes I do hide that.  But only if I purchased it for myself.  In a house of 4 women chocolate is like gold.  Because the Princess Palace (aka: Diva Den) has strict privacy rules about other’s bed chambers anything in my room is considered off limits and safe.  But I still have hiding places for it even in my room.

2.  Do u keep your vehicle clean or am I the only one who has things falling out of their van?

For the most part my car is pretty clean inside.  I go in spurts of cleaner some days than others.  Being in Avon, on any given day there could be a number of boxes of brochures in my car, in bags, ready to give out to anyone that happens to be walking upright and breathing.  But there is no food, and the car seats from babysitting are gone now (I used to have 2 in my home daycare that required car seats and one that needed a booster).

current condition of my back seat

3.  Have you ever been to Vegas?

While I do apply the Vegas rule to any and every situation (what happens there stays there), I have never been to Vegas.  Funny thing is, I have ZERO desire to go to Vegas.  I might be the only person I know who couldn’t care less if it vanished off the face of the earth.  Just nothing about Vegas appeals to me.  Not even getting married by an Elvis Presley impersonator would be a draw, not really into that or drive-through weddings either.  I don’t gamble, money is too hard  to come by to do that, might as well light it and toss it in the fireplace!

Not for me, but click the photo to get info on it if that is what you are seeking.

4.  Warm room light blankets or cold room warm snuggly blanket?

COLD room, warm snuggly blanket please! In fact electric blankets are good, I love mine.  My cat likes my room cold too because she sleeps on the blanket and keeps warm, usually against my leg.

5.  What is the worst airplane/flying experience you’ve ever had?

I will go on record as saying I HATE flying.  Terrified the entire time.  It is so hard to read or sleep when one is a complete basket case.

First bad experience, and the worst,  was my second time in the air, coming home from Cancun.  Thankfully the flight down was smooth and uneventful or I’d have hitch hiked back to the states and then hopped a Grey Hound bus home.  Coming back I needed to use the ladies room, so I unbuckled my seat belt (that alone was enough to bring on a panic attack) and went.  While sitting on the commode we hit turbulence.  The flight attendants recommended buckling up.  I’m frantically searching all over around the potty, seems no one thought to install a seat belt for the plane toilets.  I was certain I was going to bounce against the door, forcing it open, landing with my fat ass sticking up in the air, pants around my ankles, and that when we crashed that is how my body would be found!   Thankfully I was able to hang on, finish my business and get back to my seat.  No doubt I looked like I had seen death eye to eye when I returned.

Now in order to get on a plane, which I have done a few more times because it is about the only way to make it to a foreign country in reasonable time, I require Xanex.  When I informed my doctor about how much it disturbs other passengers to see me laying in the fetal position on the floor sucking my thumb and weeping hysterically, he agreed I needed some flying assistance.  I pop one of those babies, have a really big, strong drink at the bar in the airport, and then board the plane.  By the time we hit cruising altitude I am out cold sleeping.  It is the only way to fly.

I have so many favorite things from the week that I had trouble narrowing it down.

I’ll focus just on Pinterest, something I just recently discovered.

I LOVE this site and have already pinned lots of things I want to keep for one reason or another.

I’ll share some of my favorites, as that seems the thing to do. They are all on my Pinterest if you see something you wish to pin to yours!

1. What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?

2. When you’re sick what do you seek comfort from?

3. What do you need to do before the end of the month?

4. Have you ever served on a jury?

5. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

——————————————————

1.  What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?

The weather in Cincinnati is always interesting.  Around here we say if you don’t like, wait 5 minutes it will change.  It is unseasonably warm today, sunny, blue skies, high today to reach 48 degrees, about 20 degrees higher than normal.  But as I said, it will change, headed into a cold snap for a few days and possible snow next week.  One January we had cold rain, then very warm, thunderstorms, a tornado, then snow…all in about a 3 day stretch or so.  I like it today, warmer and sunny.  I am not a big fan of winter.

2.  When you’re sick what do you seek comfort from?

I like to curl up in bed, with my teddy bear (yes I do have one), and just sleep.  I am not a good patient, I want lots of TLC, the more pampering the better.

3.  What do you need to do before the end of the month?

I really don’t have anything I need to do!  The lack of pressure is kind of nice.

4.  Have you ever served on a jury?

Nope, never been called to do that…yet.  They may or may not seat me, as my dad is a retired police officer and my son is a sheriff’s deputy.  I’m told that plays into it sometimes.

5.  If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d like ONE week as a cat.  The very idea of sleeping 16-18 hours a day right now sounds so delightful.  I love their ability to jump, run, and their playful nature too.

1.       ____ is my ideal winter night.

2.       I don’t remember the last time I ___ but, I really want to.

3.       I will never turn down __________

4.      To save money I like to ____________

My Answers:

1.  Curled  up with a cup of flavored coffee, in front of the fireplace in the family room with the other Divas (mom, sister, 2 nieces) laughing and watching TV while I crochet a blanket is my ideal winter night.  For now, as I’m not in a relationship with anyone of the male side of the species.

2.  I don’t remember the last time I heard my son play the bagpipes but, I really want to!  He plays the highland pipes and is in the Cincinnati Emerald Society. He used to play with the Sheriff’s dept. pipe band but being on road patrol he really doesn’t have the ability to be away for events the department band participates in.  He is getting married on St. Patrick’s Day 2012, maybe he’ll play at the reception….

3.  I will never turn down dark chocolate.  I LOVE it and if it is there in front of me, I’m going to eat it.  Life is too short to worry about a few extra calories, especially if it happens to be an Esther Price dark chocolate candy, YUM!

4.  To save money I like to invite people over with food and drinks to watch football games.  While I enjoy the game in a sports bar full of cheering fans, or a good seat at the game with 65,000 screaming fans, I prefer to save money and enjoy the games with friends and family at home.  Not to mention the bathroom is clean and has no line.

Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You’ve come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you’ve suddenly discovered your muses have been Christmas baking and are covered in flour and chocolate.
Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!
Oh, and remember (pay close attention…this is the important one)…HAVE FUN!
1. What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

2. Worst/Funniest White Elephant gift ever received?

3. Is your Christmas tree plain and simple (white lights and matching ornaments) or is it wild and crazy (colored lights with lots of ornaments collected over the years)?

4. “How” do you iron your clothes? The old fashioned iron/ironing board way, the shower, back in the dryer, etc.

5. How much baking do you do for Christmas and what are your “must make” items? (I’m looking for recipes here, peeps…)

———————————————

1.  What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

Wow, that would have to be the I received and gave to someone else.  I gave a child up for adoption at 16yo.  She was born the day after Christmas and was just beautiful.  I knew I was just a kid and not ready to be a mom, and that on a waiting list somewhere was a couple that desperately wanted a daughter.  Giving her life and giving someone else that life to have as their own changed me in many ways that I cannot even begin to explain, all good though.  Sometimes the best gift is the one you give to another.

2.  Worst/Funniest White Elephant gift ever received?

Wow this probably sounds crazy, but I’ve never participated in one that I really remember, nothing stands out.  My sister did though, and it was a clock, still in the package, and it didn’t work.  We hung it up for a while, we thought it was amusing.

3.  Is your Christmas tree plain and simple (white lights and matching ornaments) or is it wild and crazy (colored lights with lots of ornaments collected over the years)?

Actually…both. Though the ornaments collected over the years are with my ex husband and daughter in the marital residence on their tree.  When mom, me, my sister and her 2 daughters bought a house and moved in together, last year was our first Christmas here together in The Diva Den.  We have a living room and family room so we put the tree with white lights in the living room.  We have started collecting “girlie” Diva like ornaments (glittery shoes etc) for that tree.  In the family room is the tree with colored lights and a hodge podge of different ornaments.

4.  “How” do you iron your clothes?  The old fashioned iron/ironing board way, the shower, back in the dryer, etc.

Good grief cannot recall the last time I actually ironed something!  Been a few years that is for certain.  Permanent press is my way to iron, so if all else fails it goes back into the dryer for a bit.  If it is something that NEEDS to be iron, the dry cleaners does it cheap enough that I’ll drop it there.

5.  How much baking do you do for Christmas and what are your “must make” items?

I haven’t done holiday baking for many years now.  I have an old Mirro Cookie Press, the kind you build muscles twisting to push out the dough through little cookie forms.  The Christmas trees per the recipe in the box are the one cookie I must make if I’m going to bake.  My son can sit down and eat several dozen in a sitting, he even has been known to ask for them throughout the year.  My daughter will handle that, along with my niece, here in the Diva Den this weekend.  And they’ll make pies. YUM!  However for the most part no one lets me handle sharp objects or use the stove, the local fire boys have to be put on stand-by if I’m cooking/baking.

Five Question Friday

It’s Five Question Friday, link up and join the fun!

1. Do you have a go to song that always puts you in a good mood?

2. Are you a real Christmas tree kinda person or do you go with a real fake one?

3. What are you thankful for?

4. Which fashion fad from the past do you wish you could wear today?

5. Do you wait until the “low fuel” light comes on before you fill up the gas tank?

——————————————————-
1. Do you have a go to song that always puts you in a good mood?
No, not so much.  There are several songs actually, though just turning on the radio  will usually do the trick.
2.  Are you a real Christmas tree kinda person or do you go with a real fake one?
Having been married to the fire department, back when my first child was born, I go with fake.  I’ve seen too many videos of how fast  live tree goes up in flames to feel safe with one in my house.  Paranoid? Maybe, fire is one of my biggest fears, but I’d rather be overly cautious.
3.  What are you thankful for?
There isn’t anything I am NOT thankful for!  Every blessing and trial make me who I am and I like me a lot!  But this morning, especially thankful for my baby girl, who is busy taking her state board exam for Vet Tech.  Praying extra for her though I have no doubt she will pass this one.
4.  Which fashion fad from the past do you wish you could wear today?
Honestly? None.  Just nothing from back that then I don’t wear that I wish I could.  If I like something, I wear it, and don’t really care what is ‘in’ at the moment.
5.  Do you wait until the “low fuel” light comes on before you fill the gas tank?
Well, yes I do sometimes.  If I have to go anywhere of distance or where I will be sitting in traffic, then no.  Otherwise, I tend to hold out for that light.  Funny thing  is I used to never allow the tank to go below 1/4 before filling it!

5Q Friday

It has been awhile since I participated in this blog hop/meme, but I’m getting my days more organized now so I have a little time to jump on this one.

1. What is your go to comfort food or sweet?

2. What is the most romantic place you’ve ever been to?

3. What is your favorite thing about fall/Halloween?

4. How would you spend 24 hours alone?

5. Does you husband bring you flowers? Are you the bring-me-flowers type of girl?

————————————————————-

1)  What is your go to comfort food or sweet?
Comfort food is Chipotle steak bowl.  That can be when I’m down in the dumps and need to feel sorry for myself, or for celebrating when I am in a great mood.  I love that place and love the steak bowls.  As far as sweets go, chocolate is my thing.  I prefer dark chocolate but hey, when I need that sweetness to sooth things, I don’t get too picky.  Mounds Bars, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with chocolate syrup, Nestle Toll House Chips right out of the bag…any of those will do.

2)  What is the most romantic place you’ve ever been to?
It isn’t really a place, it is an atmosphere that surrounds me and The Count.  I think when we boil it down, that is the case with anyone that gives it thought.  I’ve been to ‘romantic places’ with someone and there was zero romance felt.  Something about being with Steve is romantic all  on it’s own.  Standing in  the drizzling rain at a festival, walking hand in hand at a flea market or antique mall, touring a WWII Navy ship together, or curled up against his shoulder being feed fresh strawberries by hand, those were all very romantic places.  It is what we feel between us that makes it romantic.

3)  What is your favorite thing about fall/Halloween?
I love the smell of a fireplace and it is that time of year when that smell is in the air again.  I also enjoy the colors of the leaves and mums, and being able to have the windows open and the air conditioning off.  I do not like the cold weather, but this is a good time of year when it is still warm enough to be outside without being ‘cold’.  Oh and I love the soft inside of a new sweat shirt or hoodie!  I love hoodies and pulling the first new one out last week was awesome.

4)  How would you spend 24 hours alone?
This is easy, I have done it before.  Reading, writing and sleeping.  I  use alone time as down time to recharge my personal batteries.  Sleep being first on the agenda as I am always behind on that.

5)  Does your husband bring you flowers?  Are you the bring-me-flowers type of girl?
I’m divorced now, but no, my ex was not a bring me flowers type.  Oh he did, a very few times over 22 years, he saw flowers as a complete waste of money because they die.  He preferred to buy me clothes or something that would last.  Usually if he got me flowers it was from a florist where it was cash and carry, wrapped in wax paper.  No pretty arrangement in a vase.  The cheap variety.  Advice for all of you guys out there, that screams to a woman that she has little value to you.  Part of getting flowers is the beauty of the arrangement.  Yes it costs more, but it tells her she is of worth to you.

Now, The Count, he has had flowers sent to me, for no reason other than to let me know he was thinking of me.  He periodically buys me little things that I’ve mentioned thinking were cool when we were out and about too, like the cat basket.  It looks like my cat, Pixel.  She has gold eyes, and it does too. I love those types of little things and flowers, it speaks volumes to me of what is in his heart.

So, yes I am a bring-me-flowers type of girl.  But only if it is not a day when all the other girls are getting them. I don’t want them because it is a special holiday geared to push flower sales, like Valentine’s Day or Sweetest Day.  Skip those, I boycott those days.  I want flowers out of the blue, it tells me I am special, thought of and loved.

Five Question Friday

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1. If you knew your best friend’s spouse was cheating on her or him, would you tell her (him)?

2. Soda in a can or a bottle?

3. What do you wash first, hair or body?

4. What advice would you give to any new mama?

5. What is your best hangover remedy?

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1. If you knew your best friend’s spouse was cheating on her or him, would you tell her (him)?

Yes, I think I would, well actually I’d force the spouse to do it.  I’d gather the evidence in case the cheater tried to deny it.  Then I’d make sure they either told their spouse or I would.  I think. This is such a difficult thing to know about and get involved in.  It has happened to people I know and dearly love, and I not only knew it, I chose to keep quiet.  I can never condone cheating, but I also understood why it was happening, that needs far more than just the physical were not being met.  I watched someone get beat down inside and now that the marriage is over, the true colors of that spouse are shining through.  They are dark, unkind, mean and bitter, completely hateful.  Oh I know they are in some ways responding to the circumstances, but then both parties are responsible for the break down over time, and this spouse being cheated on, yeah those true colors were there and not at all attractive.  I fully take 50% of the responsibility for the time I found the former prince looking on Adult Friend Finder for booty calls, that nearly wrecked the marriage then.  And I am half responsible for the fact that the marriage finally ended.

Would I have wanted someone to tell me? Yep.  And 90% of the time, I will rat you out if I catch you cheating on your spouse and he or she is my friend.

2. Soda in a can or a bottle?

In this part of the country, it is called POP.  Okay and can is  preferred over a  bottle, but ultimately I want fountain style.  I think that is when it tastes the best and is the most refreshing.

3. What do you wash first, hair or body?

My face is first, then hair, then body.  I am very OCD about this.  Face first so if any of the facial cleanser gets in my hair  it will be washed away.  Hair next because it is the top, and the water, soap and dirt runs DOWN.  Then the  body last.  I even wash from the top to the toes in that  order.  I cannot deviate from that or it throws my entire day off.  I’m a freak, I know. It’s okay.

4. What advice would you give to any new mama?

Baby comes first, then your spouse, then the rest of your cleaning, etc.  Take care of the baby, that bonding time is precious.  And when baby sleeps, you sleep so you stay well rested. Patience is required when they are little and  sleep deprivation is only going to make it harder to care for that little angel.  Do not neglect your spouse and their needs because the baby is here, put aside everything else and focus on them.  No one will come in and steal your dirty clothes or dishes (though if only there were fairies to come in and wash them!).  At the end of the day if it didn’t get accomplished then it really wasn’t that important.  In the big picture, 5 years down the road when that little boy or girl goes off to school, they won’t remember that you didn’t always have the house completely cleaned up.  Not saying let it all go to complete mess, but spic and span isn’t necessary either.

5. What is your best hangover remedy?

Sadly, being 48, I have some extensive research  into this area.  The best remedy is don’t get drunk.  Oh the times I’d lay there in agony thinking “never again”.  However, on those occasions when too much alcohol the night before results in the potential for a bad morning, one thing I have found helps is before going to bed, load up on some junk carbs.  Around these parts hitting Skyline for coneys or White Castle for some sliders helps a bunch.  And water!  In fact, when I did drink too much, the former prince would put me to  bed with a 16 ounce  bottle of water that had a table spoon of sugar mixed in and 2 aspirin.  90% of the time I woke up feeling great.  If you fail to use preventative maintenance techniques the night before, my son swears by loading up on the junkie carbs the next morning.  Like a nice pizza or something.  Assuming you can get it to stay down.

Again, best remedy is NOT to need one!

Five Questions

1. Who is the better cook, you or your spouse?

2. How often do you talk to your mom?

3. Are you adventurous in the kitchen or stick to the recipe?

4. Is your second toe longer than your big toe?

5. Do you dress up for Halloween? (Bonus question: What will you be this year?)

~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1. Who is the better cook, you or your spouse? Well when I was married, hubby was the better cook.  I HATE cooking, just not my thing.  I am most familiar with the fridge (where the beer is kept cold) and the coffee maker (where the coffee is hot).  Never have been one that liked cooking.  YES I can cook, I can follow a recipe and will even get brave now and then and screw it up change things but I still hate it.  He on the other hand is an awesome cook.  That reminds me, need to email old Lord Voldemort ex-hubster and see what he’ll charge us to make us Diva’s a big tray of his incredible stuffed shells.

2. How often do you talk to your mom?
Daily.  It is kinda hard to avoid, we live together.  Though it was at least every other day if not every day when I was married too.  I am close to my mom which is a good thing.  If not verbally in person or via the phone, it was on email and texts.  Mom is in her mid  60’s but she is tech savvy and can BBM, IM, text, Twitter, Facebook and email etc.

3. Are you adventurous in the kitchen or stick to the recipe?

Simply entering the kitchen is rather adventurous for me!  To actually approach the stove and make food is a big hairy deal really.  As far as recipes, yes I will deviate if I think I can do something better.  As stated in a blog yesterday, when entering the kitchen I tend to Tweet and Facebook to the local fire boys to be on standby just in case, one never knows with me.

4. Is your second toe longer than your big toe?

Nope mine have a nice, slant from the big one down to the small one.

5. Do you dress up for Halloween? (Bonus question: What will you be this year?)

Most years of late I do dress up, however this year I am not certain.  I like to dress up as Cruela DeVil but I may be loaning the costume out to a friend.

Five Question Friday

YEAH, T.G.I.F.!!!! I love Fridays and one thing I have now come to love about it is Five Question Friday, a blog meme where 5 questions are posed to those participating and we all answer them as a blog entry.  If you have a blog and wish to take part just click the button:

1. Do you collect anything?

No, not really.  As a child I used to collect matchbooks but long ago stopped and don’t even know if any of those are around any longer.  I love lighthouses, and have 3 very cool miniatures but really do not collect them.

2. Name 3 celebrities that you find good looking.

  1. Well for starters country singer, Trace Adkins.  I think he is SO incredibly sexy.  Totally love the bad-boy rebel thing he has going on.
  2. Kiefer Sutherland, I will miss ’24’ because he just made the show, he is also very sexy and totally hot in my opinion.
  3. Political affiliations aside, and not sure she counts as a celebrity, but I think 1st lady Michelle Obama is strikingly attractive both in looks and personality.

3. Do you have any scars? If so, what’s the story behind it (them?)?

Yes, I have a tummy tuck scar and scars from breast implants.   Having kids totally wrecked me, in my opinion, and no amount of crunches in the world puts sagging skin back once it has been stretched out that badly.  All the the work in the world won’t perk up breasts either, once they have stretched so I went and had some nip and tuck done and I love the way I look now.

4. What is a food that you like to eat, but others might think it’s gross or weird?

Liver and onions!  I love liver and onions and that grosses many out.  I love chicken hearts too.  However that being said I cannot bring my self to eat liver anymore after realizing the liver’s function in the body, just cannot get past that any longer.

5. Have you ever seen a tornado in real life?

YES! In April of 1974 I got to watch a tornado form, touch down and begin to take out areas of the west side of Cincinnati (it actually formed in northern Kentucky).  My dad took  incredible photos and we watched it for several minutes before my mom ushered us all into the basement.  That and seeing the aftermath likely contribute a good deal to my intense fear of storms.

5 Question Friday – July 9th

1. What is one food you could eat everyday?

Chipotle steak burrito bowl with rice, black beans, corn, and cheese.  I get a bag of their chips and use the chips instead of a fork to eat it all, YUM!  I actually ate it  for lunch and dinner for a solid week once so I know  I could do it everyday.  Never see myself  tiring of that one!

2. Are you working in the career you thought you would be when you were 18?

No, never did have that one.  While  I wanted to be a lawyer when growing up, the idea of such a lengthy time in school did not appeal to me.  Once I reached 18 my goal was to be a wife and mom, with the intention of staying home and raising kids.  I never had that opportunity and now that my kids are adults it is a lost dream.  In my mid 30s I thought I wanted to be a sign  language interpreter but with one class left life dealt us an interesting card – kinship foster parents  for 4 kids.  I took off school for a year and then I just  never went back.  I can still sign but the skills are weak and the language so complex that I would need to repeat a lot of classes in order to get back to where I need in order to interpret.

3. What is something that you wish you would have done when you were younger and you didn’t?

I really wish I had gone to college MUCH younger than my mid 30s, like in my 20s!  However it is never to late to return to school and I am giving serious consideration to going back..just as soon as I figure out what it is  I’d like to learn.

4. What color are your kitchen walls?

I guess you’d call it a shade of olive green.  It actually is a cheerful and warm color, one that gives a feeling of peace.  I really love our kitchen.

5. Do you remember what your very first favorite song was?

WOW  no, but it  was on a Donny Osmond album,  probably his first  one?  Most likely “Puppy Love” but not completely certain.  Dang that goes  so far  back in time…
