Day 24 ~ 30 Days Of Thankfulness 2012

Mom said it best this morning:

“I’m thankful for a warm house.”

I second that one!  It is 35 degrees outside at the moment.  Someone posted on Facebook a little while ago that they were seeing flurries.  Oh yippie.  I don’t  like winter.  I love snow if I am inside looking out on it with a hot cup of coffee in hand.  But I do NOT like being cold one bit.

So, as it is cold outside, I’m very thankful for the warm house we live in, keeping us comfortable on this cold day.

1. What is your favorite kind of soup?
2. When was the last time you saw snow?
3. What is a must have trait if someone is going to live with you?
4. Who was your favorite James Bond?

And don’t forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

My Answers:

1.  What is your favorite kind of soup?
WOW that is a tough one, as I really do not have a favorite.  My ex makes one called Cheese Burger soup, the recipe came from someone we went to church with, and that might possibly be the favorite.  Hmm, in fact I think I will contact the source and see if she still has that recipe, it is to die for delicious, and if she gives it up, I’ll post it!

2.  When is the last time you saw snow?
Last winter!  This area of the country (southwest Ohio) sees its share of snow in winter.  Not usually a mega bunch like other areas, but we’re good for several decent snow falls each winter.  Personally I’m a fan of it on Christmas Eve after I go to sleep, it can snow several inches, we can wake to a white Christmas, then the crap can melt on December 26th and not return until Christmas Eve the next year.

3.  What is a must have trait if someone is going to live with you?
A really good sense of humor and playful spirit.  Life is too short to take it all so seriously, and I like to have fun and laugh, a lot!

4.  Who was your favorite James Bond?
Sean Connery without a doubt! OMG I still think at 82 the man is sexy!

And now for my question for those that happen by my blog to answer in the comments:

5.  What is your favorite guilty pleasure when you take time out for yourself?

Link up and don’t forget to leave your answer for #5 in the comments!

Day 4 ~ 30 Days Of Thankfulness 2012

A warm, comfortable bed, that is what I’m thankful for today.

Some mornings the hardest task of the day is crawling out from the soft, warm blankets.  I sleep like a brick in it, it is so comfy, cozy, and warm on chilly mornings.  I know there are many around the world who are fortunate to sleep at all, and then it is on hard, cold surfaces, or in ditches fighting wars.  Some would not know such joy as to have a warm blanket let alone soft cotton sheets and a thick, cozy comforter.

I am very aware of the blessing of small simple things, and my bed is one of those seemingly simple pleasures for which I give much thanks!

Day 1 ~ 30 Days Of Thankfulness 2012

I’m thankful for my childhood.  I was richly blessed with a close family, relatively normal by most definitions.  2 brothers and 1 sister, and great parents.  My memories are extensive ones from growing up, traveling the country. We camped all over and I’ve seen SO many things thanks to those vacations.  Memories of singing around the campfire at night, cherry pies made with pie filling, bread and an iron pie maker over the fire, marshmallows and family.  Christmas trees falling over when 4 kids were running through the house, building snowmen in winter, roller skating in summer…the list is just endless.

For the wonderful memories, of a wonderful childhood, with a wonderful family…I am very thankful!

Each week, Feeling Beachie will plan on listing four statements with a blank for you to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!

1.       ____ is my ideal winter night.

2.       I don’t remember the last time I ___ but, I really want to.

3.       I will never turn down __________

4.      To save money I like to ____________

My Answers:

1.  Curled  up with a cup of flavored coffee, in front of the fireplace in the family room with the other Divas (mom, sister, 2 nieces) laughing and watching TV while I crochet a blanket is my ideal winter night.  For now, as I’m not in a relationship with anyone of the male side of the species.

2.  I don’t remember the last time I heard my son play the bagpipes but, I really want to!  He plays the highland pipes and is in the Cincinnati Emerald Society. He used to play with the Sheriff’s dept. pipe band but being on road patrol he really doesn’t have the ability to be away for events the department band participates in.  He is getting married on St. Patrick’s Day 2012, maybe he’ll play at the reception….

3.  I will never turn down dark chocolate.  I LOVE it and if it is there in front of me, I’m going to eat it.  Life is too short to worry about a few extra calories, especially if it happens to be an Esther Price dark chocolate candy, YUM!

4.  To save money I like to invite people over with food and drinks to watch football games.  While I enjoy the game in a sports bar full of cheering fans, or a good seat at the game with 65,000 screaming fans, I prefer to save money and enjoy the games with friends and family at home.  Not to mention the bathroom is clean and has no line.

Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You’ve come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you’ve suddenly discovered your muses have been Christmas baking and are covered in flour and chocolate.
Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!
Oh, and remember (pay close attention…this is the important one)…HAVE FUN!
1. What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

2. Worst/Funniest White Elephant gift ever received?

3. Is your Christmas tree plain and simple (white lights and matching ornaments) or is it wild and crazy (colored lights with lots of ornaments collected over the years)?

4. “How” do you iron your clothes? The old fashioned iron/ironing board way, the shower, back in the dryer, etc.

5. How much baking do you do for Christmas and what are your “must make” items? (I’m looking for recipes here, peeps…)

———————————————

1.  What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

Wow, that would have to be the I received and gave to someone else.  I gave a child up for adoption at 16yo.  She was born the day after Christmas and was just beautiful.  I knew I was just a kid and not ready to be a mom, and that on a waiting list somewhere was a couple that desperately wanted a daughter.  Giving her life and giving someone else that life to have as their own changed me in many ways that I cannot even begin to explain, all good though.  Sometimes the best gift is the one you give to another.

2.  Worst/Funniest White Elephant gift ever received?

Wow this probably sounds crazy, but I’ve never participated in one that I really remember, nothing stands out.  My sister did though, and it was a clock, still in the package, and it didn’t work.  We hung it up for a while, we thought it was amusing.

3.  Is your Christmas tree plain and simple (white lights and matching ornaments) or is it wild and crazy (colored lights with lots of ornaments collected over the years)?

Actually…both. Though the ornaments collected over the years are with my ex husband and daughter in the marital residence on their tree.  When mom, me, my sister and her 2 daughters bought a house and moved in together, last year was our first Christmas here together in The Diva Den.  We have a living room and family room so we put the tree with white lights in the living room.  We have started collecting “girlie” Diva like ornaments (glittery shoes etc) for that tree.  In the family room is the tree with colored lights and a hodge podge of different ornaments.

4.  “How” do you iron your clothes?  The old fashioned iron/ironing board way, the shower, back in the dryer, etc.

Good grief cannot recall the last time I actually ironed something!  Been a few years that is for certain.  Permanent press is my way to iron, so if all else fails it goes back into the dryer for a bit.  If it is something that NEEDS to be iron, the dry cleaners does it cheap enough that I’ll drop it there.

5.  How much baking do you do for Christmas and what are your “must make” items?

I haven’t done holiday baking for many years now.  I have an old Mirro Cookie Press, the kind you build muscles twisting to push out the dough through little cookie forms.  The Christmas trees per the recipe in the box are the one cookie I must make if I’m going to bake.  My son can sit down and eat several dozen in a sitting, he even has been known to ask for them throughout the year.  My daughter will handle that, along with my niece, here in the Diva Den this weekend.  And they’ll make pies. YUM!  However for the most part no one lets me handle sharp objects or use the stove, the local fire boys have to be put on stand-by if I’m cooking/baking.

Wine & Cheese – 26th Serving

Welcome to Wine & Cheese, my weekly, Wednesday whine session.

Every week on Wednesday I devote a blog to whining. Despite being a really happy, positive person, I do have things that annoy me at times.

I never let anything grate on my nerves for long but thought it would be fun to vent them periodically in my blogs.

I also feel that good things, the cheese in life, should be acknowledged as well.

I’m even going to throw in a bit of dessert, a piece of virtual chocolate, something that made me laugh or smile just a bit more than normal.

If you’d like to read the past editions of Wine & Cheese just click HERE for all of the past postings.

Sit back and join me now for the 26th serving of some wine and cheese!

WHINE

:( I have to get this out of my system this morning…I AM SO SICK OF WINTER!!!!!  Sick of cold, sick of ice, sick of the @#$%^&*! SNOW!!!  Enough said, everyone is likely in agreement and what more can be said about Snowpocolypes or Snowmageden, whatever you want to call this winter storm nonsense!

:(   I am also tired of whatever this cold bug, sinus infection is, it is time for it to go bye-bye!  Finally was able to sleep last night without the aid of my Nyquil induced coma.   Now if I could just quit blowing my nose and feeling so tired I’d be happy.

:(   Brace yourselves, we’re going to talk about poop.  Cat poop to be exact.  One of these 3 felines has something very wrong in their digestive track and the smell is worse than anything I’ve experienced in a baby diaper.   Best diet program I’ve encountered, cleaning up a litter box used by a cat with a questionable issue in their bowels.  (See, one doesn’t have to be a mommy blogger to talk about poop!)

CHEESE

:)   ANTIBIOTICS!!!  The  single greatest discovery in medical history, at least in my opinion this week as it seems to be the only reason I finally started feeling better.  Can I get an AMEN?

:)   COFFEE!!!  I gotta say that right now nothing beats a fresh, hot cup of coffee in the morning.  All the better if served up in one of my favorite coffee cups!  Yep, makes your breath smell like butt, however what would the morning be without it?  It would be a sad morning without the hot cup of  java!

:)   SPARKPEOPLE!!!  I’ve neglected to use my SparkPeople account as being sick the last thing I even remotely cared about was what was being fed to my tummy.  But today we are back on the Spark, watching every little morsel that will enter through my mouth.  BRAVO ME!!!!  It is AWESOME and FREE and you will love it if you want to get fit, healthy, lose weight etc.  There is a link on the side bar over  yonder on the right –>
