Lazy Holiday Weekend…

I LOVE SUMMER TIME!!!!

I hate winter, hate being cold, hate snow (okay I do love LOOKING at it, but nothing else).  So summer is best, and the hotter the better.

Yesterday the family gathered at my brother’s house to celebrate the holiday.  Having fire fighters for brothers means we have to do things ‘around’ a holiday, not necessarily on the holiday.  Which is okay, this year the 4th of July is a Monday which makes of  a P-A-R-T-Y weekend.  We spent the day grilling and swimming.  He and his very awesome, mega cool, love her to pieces significant other that will soon (but not soon enough) be my sister-in-law, hosted the family event, pool side, at their house.  It was outstanding.

I managed somehow to remember to use sunscreen and got away with just a slight tan line (need to adjust down for a lower SPF) but NO  burn, YIPPIE!  Last time I floated around their pool I burned  so bad  it lasted  2 weeks.  Not real bright sometimes but hey, I’m cute so it makes up for the lack of common sense.

What a fantastic  day!  I slept like a brick and my guess is that my 3 youngest nieces (all 3, as Angeo’s baby girl is every bit the niece to me) likely slept long and hard.  They looked like they had hit the wall running about 8pm last night.  They were in the pool all day.

Today we are supposed to go back and do some more holding down of the rafts in the water.  It is a tough job, we don’t want those things to float away.  It is hard work, and often requires a little extra weight so a beer in hand tends to be just enough to keep them in place as they drift around in the water.

Life is great!

I Won’t Be Quitting My Day Job

I did not win the lottery over the weekend, but that is not why I won’t be quitting my day job.

I won’t be quitting  because it is what I LOVE.  I knew again, for certain, that this is what I want to be doing when I woke up this morning and smiled because I was going to spend my day with Mr. Man, Miss Thang and later Princess Smiles A Lot. Never mind that our central air is out, and we are surviving with fans.  I can live with that, we never had central air when I was growing up and so honestly this is really not that big a deal.  I  couldn’t wait to get moving and wait for them to arrive.

In the midst of dirty diapers, sippy cups, mangled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, there are countless hugs, smiles and giggles.  Moments of discovery with something new and tasty to eat, singing along with favorite kiddie shows, and sleeping angels at nap time.   Miss Marti enjoys what she is doing.

I am able to read, or write blog posts.  I am working my Avon business, slowly but steadily.  I build with giant Lego blocks, color, draw on the driveway with sidewalk chalk, blow bubbles and wipe noses, dance and laugh with a toddler, and when I am sleepy I can take a nap when the little ones take theirs.  In the summer I’ll work with the Princess to keep her reading, writing and math skills sharp, and I will take the kids to swim at my brother’s, which means while playing I’ll be working on my free tan.

When in my house I clean, do dishes, change out the litter box, do the household laundry, and at the end of the day I am tired when I crawl into my bed, but I feel very accomplished!

I am looking forward to the newborn I will take on at the end of the summer as well.

This is, without a doubt, the best and my most favorite line of employment that I have ever had!  :)

Blogging is a funny thing…we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, “who is this person!?” I know them…but yet I don’t know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to “meet” each other!

1. What is your favorite kind of doughnut?

Seriously?? Um the kind that has a ton of calories, fat, carbs, lots of icing, sprinkles, chocolate….get the picture? I don’t think I ever met a doughnut I  didn’t like, which likely has more to do with my ass being so big than my Hungarian ancestors.

2. How often do you pray?

Daily! Sometimes multiple  times a day I  shoot up those little S.O.S. types, or when something crosses my mind that I realized needs  praying for at that moment.  Every night I pray for my son,  because I never can keep his  schedule straight as to when he is on patrol, and both brothers and the ex husband, especially when I hear  sirens of fire apparatus headed out,  and for that matter all the guys responding to the runs when I hear them go out (fire house is nearby).

3. What is your favorite kind of music?

I really like all kinds of music.  As I am working on this post I have Kenny G playing, sometimes it is something Celtic.  I love easy listening, classical, jazz, blues, rock, classic  rock, hip hop, really just about anything.  Much depends on my mood at the moment.

4. What do you order when you eat Chinese food?

I generally do a sampler type of order with others so we can all have a little bit of many things.  Honestly do not have a real favorite when it comes to Chinese  food.  Generally my rule  with food is I will try it if  it doesn’t look like it could get up and walk off the plate on it’s own…hence crab legs and lobster have  to come looking like pieces of fish or  forget it!

5. Would you rather snowboard in the winter or swim in the summer?

SWIM!!! I love to watch the snow, and don’t mind shoveling it for the workout benefits but I HATE being cold with a passion.  I have had arthritis since my early 20s and cold really makes that difficult.  Give me tropical  temps, warm breezes and a swimming pool and I am very happy!
