Meet Me On Monday

Welcome to the 50th edition of “Meet Me On Monday!” Blogging  is a funny thing…we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read  and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, “who is  this person!?”  I know them…but yet I don’t know them!  I want  to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great  way for all of us to “meet” each other!

Every Sunday Never Growing Old will post five get to know you  questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we  can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

Java will add a linky so we can follow who participates and get to know them  better!!  Be sure to link the POST and not just your whole blog!!

If you have a question suggestion please email: and if she uses your question she’ll will give you a shout out!

1.  What is your favorite food?
2.  What color scheme is your bedroom?
3.  Do you carry a donor card?
4.  In your opinion, is the glass half empty or half full?
5.  Vanilla or Chocolate?
My Answers!

1. What is your favorite food?

Seriously hard to nail down just one, as I LOVE food!  But by far one of my all time favorites is a Chipotle steak bowl with rice, black beans, corn salsa and cheese.  Only variation in what I get there is sometimes chicken rather than steak.  Oh and always chips, I use the chips to scoop and eat! YUM!

2.  What color scheme is  your bedroom?

The walls are painted Chai Latte, kind of a warm peach color.  All accents (curtains, bedding etc) are black and white.  I love my room, it is my nest and haven.

3.  Do you carry a donor card?

No, but my drivers license is flagged as an organ donor.  I am a huge supporter of organ  donation as a dear friend’s son was born with heart valve issues and required a valve replacement at 5 months old.  Someone  had to lose their precious child of 3 years old, but they lovingly gave the gift of life to countless other children by donating parts of that angel.  I cannot imagine NOT donating my organs.  Or blood on a regular basis for that matter!

4.  In your opinion, is the glass half empty or half full?

Full…only far more than half, about 95% full.  And I believe that is all attitude.  It isn’t our circumstances,  it is how we respond to them that makes life great!

5.  Vanilla or  Chocolate?

Chocolate…preferably dark chocolate.  :)

My Imperfect Yet Colorful Canvas

Better to get to the end of your journey & look back on a colorful, imperfect mess than a blank canvas.

I follow The Single Woman on Twitter and on her page, her wisdom in life and relationships is often right on the money for me!

My life is a colorful, imperfect mess.  The canvas has yet to be completed but don’t look for a masterpiece there.  Well, on second thought, DO. I AM a masterpiece, I am me..totally unique, wonderful, me.  Consider yourself lucky if I bring you into my life for any length of time, because there is no one you will ever know quite like me!

Yesterday I posted some things about myself, here are  more of the colors on the canvas that is Marvelous Martha:

I drink a lot of coffee, straight black coffee.

I prefer diet coke over soft drinks.  I don’t drink it because it is diet, I drink it because I like it.  Yes, I am one of those women that orders a bunch of crappy food at the drive  through and a diet.  DUH, I know it is not off setting the junky calories and fat grams!!!  I  HATE regular soda, way too sweet tasting for my tongue.  So stop looking at me like I am an idiot when I order!

I have a tendency to have too many little projects going at once and not always finish them.  I think I am likely ADD, big  shocker there most of the women in this family seem to be.

I cannot dance  worth crap.  Oh slow  dancing is passable.  But I don’t usually get on the dance floor at a club or wedding, not my thing.  Don’t ask, there isn’t enough beer to get me to prove this.

I am very careful with my heart, so if I am foolish enough to give it to you and you break it, you won’t likely get a second shot no matter how much I felt for you.  Yes foolish.  I’ve yet to give it to any man that didn’t either drop it or deliberately shatter it.  I’m getting tired of it being on life support and beginning to believe my ex-husband was right when he said “all us men are pigs”.

I forgive easily enough, but I don’t forget and I never trust the person again once my trust is broken.

I love summer, because I HATE being cold.  Sure snow is beautiful and I appreciate that and enjoy watching it.  But cold is painful.  Give me tropical climates!

I am not thin.  I am not fat.  I’m a tad curvy, and I am comfy with and LIKE my curves.  Not even plump, just curvy (big boobs and hips that carried 3 babies).   I will not lose weight or put it on for any man.  Take me as I am or take a hike.

I enjoy being dressed up, but hands down I far prefer my jeans thanks.  And a t-shirt or a sport jersey, with my face all painted up for my team.  I am just a simple, low maintenance woman.

I need readers, and it sucks.  But I’m trying to grow old gracefully so I deal with it.  They tend to hang around my neck on a chain, just like my grandma.  Don’t judge, at least I can find them!

I have all my own teeth, none of which are removed and placed  in a glass or other container.

My eyes are grey.  Not blue, not green, not hazel, but honestly grey.  They pick up color and reflect it, and they change to a deep blue at times with my moods.  I only learned this recently when my best friend, Stan/Mr.Wonderful, noticed it and told me.  He was the first man that ever took time to look into my soul.  I never met anyone else, including my ex-husband, that wanted to go there to see my deepest dreams, longings, and fears…my very vulnerable side.  Out there somewhere is Mr.  I Don’t Want To Live My Life Without You Beside Me, and if he plays his cards right and doesn’t push, but takes the time to LOOK, he’ll get to see inside my soul too. (Frankly not holding my breath on that one)

Christmas is my favorite holiday.  I love that time of year and cannot get the tree up soon enough.  I love all the shows, the colors, decorations etc.  I am like a kid!

I love Mounds bars, if kept in the refrigerator, and M&Ms the same way.

I hate wearing shoes! I prefer to run around in socks, hence I go through a lot of them.  I even kick my shoes off in church and they remain under the pew in front of me for the entire service.  :)

I love to read…it is like a drug to me.  I will even read the shampoo bottle in the shower  if I haven’t had a good reading fix lately.  Don’t smirk, at least I read!

I wear a bridal set on my left hand.  It is NOT the one my ex put on me years back, I purchased this one because I like it.  It keeps the heat off.  No, not bragging, but it does minimize unwanted advances and I do get my fair share.

Eating out is fun, but cooking with someone in the kitchen is much more so!

I DO want to learn to throw darts.  I enjoyed the brief stint, even though all I was ever really told was “throw at the center of the board”.  Hoping someone will take up the teaching and REALLY teach me.

I like to bowl, I have my own ball and shoes…thinking me and my sister need to find another league soon!

I love Chipotle Mexican Grill….I eat the same thing every time I go. YUM!

I love cold fried chicken!

Dark chocolate is WAY better than milk chocolate any day.

My ice cream should never be served without special dark chocolate syrup and walnuts.

My hearing is starting to go, so  loud places make it very difficult for me to hear, I prefer a bar without live music when talking to someone. Or to sit outside on the patio where  I can hear my friend and the music.

My idea of group therapy is a circle of friends around a table and a cooler full of beer….or a table at the local bar.

My idea of one on one therapy is wine and a blanket under the stars with someone special to talk too.

Okay okay, enough viewing this canvas for now.

Post It Note Tuesday – Comfort Food Edition

Only Parent ChroniclesThanks to OPC for hosting one of my favorite blog hops. To join click the note above.

Princess Smiles A Lot and I were talking about comfort foods, those foods that just make us feel all happy, warm and fuzzy when we can have them.  While sitting here munching on one of mine I was inspired to use those as my Post It Note Tuesday (PINT) blog.  The following are only a small sample of my many favorites:

Random Tuesday Thoughts 10/26/10

How many times is enough to reheat the coffee in the microwave before just giving up and going and getting a fresh cup?  And really, how is it I can get so damn busy I forget to actually drink it?  I swear if I drank all that I actually pour in the cup I could crawl across the ceiling.

Would love to know who the sweetheart is that put candy corn and pumpkins in the big candy dish in the coffee lounge. Probably one of those that is all fit and trim and trying to keep the law of redistribution of body fat from hitting them by keeping all of us packing it on.  Thanks bitch, but NO thanks, I will exercise self control and just have coffee. Besides the plain aren’t as good as the chocolate and caramel ones I have in a baggie in my desk drawer!

At my sister’s office they are all decorating their cubes today for Halloween and dressing up.  She has a pricey, but very cool Wicked Witch/Elphaba costume and will be painted green before putting on the attire. It is one ‘wicked’ costume, no pun intended.  On this severe storm day she may learn to fly too.  Bet that sight driving down the road on her way home this afternoon will raise a few eyebrows with the storms blowing through, LOL.

Debating leaving the phone plugged in so that it is fully charged when/if we lose power today.  I fear suffering cyber crack withdraw if I cannot access my favorite stuff at least through my phone.  I know, I’m pathetic.

“I feel the need to reach out and touch someone today…a 2×4 should do the trick” – just saw that on my former sister-in-law’s Facebook status, I SO know the feeling, Mel, I’ve a few folks in mind for that touch!(NO your big brother is NOT one of the choices for that touch, I’m over that)

Wondering if all this weather hype today is going to result in NOTHING.  Every time they get all worked up about some big ass snow storm coming our way we see very little materialize.  Same seems to happen when they call for severe thunderstorms, so my guess is it is a bunch of hooey and other than some rain and wind we won’t see anything to be concerned about.

Wondering…does anyone use Myspace anymore?  I think I check mine once a week now, but I live on Facebook.  I think Myspace is slowly fading into history.  Considering just deleting mine, all I ever get on there is a bunch of friend requests from ass pirates that I have NO desire to meet.

Who would have imagined the quickest way to bust this cold/flu up was  to flush my sinuses with salt water, pouring it up my nose with a plastic tea pot?  I swear I was skeptical but honestly, the neti pot is amazing.  It is fun too, when my niece walks in and finds me over the bathroom sink irrigating the nasal passages, she is kinda creeped out by the whole thing.  I swear it is a god send, have noticed a relief from my cat allergies too.  Strange but I’ll take it!

Wondering if I can get to Chipotle at 11am before the storms hit? I really need a steak bowl and chips (Hey, I had chicken yesterday, gotta have something different right?).  Comfort food again, for riding out the non-storm that won’t be a big deal.  Got a lot on the brain and heart to work through today too.  Yep comfort food.  It was that or bring teddy bear to work and I’m thinking the sight of a 47yo woman walking around hugging a teddy bear would be moderately disturbing to folks.  So, Chipotle it is!

10 Things That Make Me Happy

It is Friday and I just do not feel like using my brain today for lunch.  Work is stressful (judging from my back ache more so than I realize) and right now I just want to think happy thoughts.

So today I’m following a Plinky prompt that suggested writing about 10 things that make me happy.  That should not be too hard to manage.

~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

10 Things That Make Me Happy

My kids coming over for a visit, be it 5 minutes or for dinner or the football game, I love them very much and I am always very happy to see them.  Aside from that it is just nice to get a call from them to chat once in a while.  I miss them both and I’m so very proud of them and who they have become.  They are both hard workers and great people.

When my cell phone rings and it is Mr. TSASA or I get an email from him (thank you Blackberry phone that I can actually receive, read and reply on you).  He always makes me feel special and I very much enjoy even those short calls and emails that wish me good things for the day.

Sleeping in never fails to make me happy!!! It happens so infrequently that I get to sleep until I feel like getting out of bed that when it does happen I am SO thankful!

Pixel Kitten at night time…when she isn’t still all wound up but is instead sleepy herself.  She still suckles in the corner of her bed, having  never been weaned from the instinct to nurse, and she purrs SO loud while she does that I can hear her in my bed. Then she comes up on the pillows, still purring, and puts her head in the palm of my hand and wraps her front paws around my forearm and falls asleep there.  I love that she ‘needs’ me and is secure there with me.

Payday!!!  The feeling that I get when I see money in my bank account that I earned is awesome.  I always smile on payday even when paying my bills.  I mean, at least I CAN pay them, so that makes me HAPPY!

A Bengals win on Sunday!  Unlike Steelers fans (booooooo don’t like them), we don’t really know what it is like to have a team that consistently WINS games.  They think we have lost it because we get so excited.  Guess when you are used to winning the magic wears off.  So (fawk you Steeler fans) I am always HAPPY when we win and relish it!

The sunshine always makes me happy!  I love looking outside and seeing a sunny day on tap.  I LOVE the warmth of the sun on my skin when I am outside and how bright the colors are on a nice, bright sunny day!

Chipotle for lunch!  Hey, I’m easy to please what can I say?  And at the suggestion of my FWB started getting chicken rather than steak and yeah, still makes me happy!

A fresh cup of coffee.  First thing in the morning it gets the brain going.  Middle of the day it is a nice addition to whatever I am doing, and right after dinner it is the perfect compliment to any dessert.  Flavored or not, coffee is wonderful!

Blogging makes me happy.  Sometimes I vent, sometimes share happy things, other times just random thoughts or a meme.  No matter the topic, blogging makes me happy, it is something I thoroughly enjoy.

10 Reasons Why I Love My Job

Mama's Losin' It

There are always a lot of reasons we hate our jobs, so I decided to chose this writing assignment so that I could THINK through the reasons I love my job.

1. I’m employed! Sounds silly but I was let go from my previous job after 26 years with the company.  I spent 18 months drawing unemployment and crawling the walls.  Certainly I did enjoy being home and free to spend my day as I wished but my kids are grown so there wasn’t a lot to do.  I did experiment with some cooking and that went well, and enjoyed laying pool side in the summer, but I NEED to work.  So finding this job was a blessing!

2. Other than my subcontractors and the boss coming and going throughout the day, for the most part it is just me there.  I have a lot of freedom to listen to whatever I want on the radio, curse a blue streak when I feel the need, and other than the phones I am really left undisturbed a good portion of the time.  I like this, I do not do well with micro-managers so being able to function without someone over my shoulder is great.  And when I need it quiet to concentrate, it is QUIET.

Simon Howden /

3.  The challenge..seriously since the boss resigned over the past weekend my job has become a world class challenge.  I’m trying to get my balance in managing 2 territories and doing all the necessary follow up and preparation so my subcontractors are on the ball and supporting the owner and VP that are now handling all the quoting and sales in these areas as well as their own.  I am stressed but it is like being dared to fail so I’m all over it and trying hard to succeed.

4.  Not going to lie, the free donuts on Fridays are kinda special to me.  The building management provides them in the coffee lounge every Friday morning, and that is just a sweet (no pun intended) little perk I very much enjoy!

5.  Free coffee is another mega plus!  The building management also provides the free coffee daily and anymore I need all the life giving push I can get in the mornings.  More than once I’ve read or heard about studies indicating that ADD adults tend to be medicated by caffeine which then masks the symptoms.  The women in my family drink coffee like addicts shooting up so there may indeed be something to it.  We can drink an entire pot each and sleep like bricks, and we’re focused on it so who knows.

6.  It keeps me busy!  Nothing is worse than watching the clock tick slowly by and being bored out of one’s mind.  This job keeps me hopping and that makes the day go by faster.  In fact some days it goes by too fast and I wish there were a few more hours to the work day so I could stay ahead of the tasks when things pile up.

7.  The job is the paycheck and the paycheck is keeping the bill collectors at bay.  I am able to pay all of my debts and that is a huge plus for me since I have no desire to have bad credit.  Took a long time after the first divorce 25 years ago to get my credit score rebuilt, not about to let that happen again.

8.  The close proximity of Chipotle Mexican Grill is another thing I LOVE about my job.  I am addicted to their steak bowl with rice, black beans, corn salsa and cheese so having one literally a block away from me can some days make it all worth the effort.  Comfort food makes the day so much better!

9.  Parking is a plus, it is also free and there is a large parking lot out there.  Knowing folks that have to go downtown to work and pay ridiculous amounts of money to park in the garages makes me realize how fortunate I am that my wallet is not forking out money to plant the car between a couple of white lines somewhere.

10. A full hour for lunch if I want it!  In that hour I am able to recharge my mental batteries and untangle my thoughts so I can tackle the remainder of the day.  Sometimes that may involve a few rounds of Farkle on Facebook, a good novel, or putting my head on the desk and taking a nap.  Whatever I do with it, that full 60 minutes that is ALL mine makes for a better work day!

Tickle Me Pink

I’ve never made a complete bucket list, it is a work in progress that one day I will post.  I also have an indulgence list, it too is a work in progress.  This is a list of things that I either buy periodically or I intend to purchase in order to spoil myself, over time, simply because I enjoy them.  Pamper Me items that while I find pleasure in them, I rarely bought for myself without feelings of guilt for spending the money.  I’m past that now.  I must say there is something liberating about managing my own money, MY money, all mine.  This just all tickles me pink!

I enjoy spoiling myself, not rotten mind you because I have never been and never will be THAT self indulgent, but I do feel I deserve some fun things now and then.  Here is my list of things I love to buy/do for myself:

NAILS: I love having acrylic nails, long ones.  I will skip eating out to put money aside to have my nails done because I think they are super feminine and if a woman is going to wear rings or bracelets then her nails should look great as they are a part of the hand that is the  showcase for the jewelry.

HAIR: I am natural blond, but I love highlights and love my kinda messy do with the back all spiked/standing up.  I also love putting pink in it at times.  I put money aside in my budget for maintaining the locks the way I like them now, and never again will I wear my hair a particular way because someone else prefers it.

TANNING: I love tanning, and I have put it off for a while now because I really did not have the money to fake bake myself bronze.  However I feel a good dose of vitamin D in the tanning bed, with the fan and radio on, is about the best 20 minute power nap I can have!  I’m working it back in my budget.

PAJAMAS: These border on an addiction of late, I love lounge wear type jammies and have been treating myself to them whenever possible.

HOODIES: I love hooded sweat shirts, cannot get enough of them, though I really  only have a few.  I love them thick, soft inside and with a pocket on the front.  Bengals, UC, plain..doesn’t matter what is on them I just  love them.

PERSONALIZED/VANITY PLATES: All my driving life I wanted license plates with my choice of wording.  I finally was able to get them a number of years ago, first set was HOT JAZ, and then I got new ones that said FYR WIFE.   In January when they were expired, Lord Voldemort wouldn’t let me get a new set, just did away with them as I was no longer a fire wife, but wasn’t allowed to spend the money for something new.  That will end this weekend. The car is going in my name and I will be ordering my new plates.  I have several ideas for what I want on them but haven’t narrowed it down.

CUSTOM BENGALS JERSEY: I will be splurging on a personalized jersey this year, maybe 2 of them. One in white and one in black, with my name and lucky number on them.   I have wanted to spend the money so many different times and even when given the green light could not bring myself to drop $100 for one when I knew our finances were tight.  Seemed like an unnecessary expense.  It still is but now I am the only one that suffers if money is tight between paydays so I WILL have one if not both!

SOCKS: Plain, white, thick footie socks, I LOVE them!  I hate shoes but like something on my feet, and those are what I like.  Because I don’t wear shoes if I can avoid it, I go through a few dozen pair a year and I don’t care.   I love them!!!

CHIPOTLE: I love Chipotle steak bowls and at least once a week (and sometimes many more) I treat myself to one for lunch.  I cannot get enough of it!

DIGITAL PHOTOS: Every payday I purchase credits to use digitial photos  so that I can dress up my blogs a bit.  I love them and love hunting for just that right one.

BLOGGING: Writing is like therapy and a drug for me.  I love blogging and don’t like to miss a day unless I have too.

READING: I love reading!  I used to have a large collection of books, I cannot get enough of reading.  I don’t like heavy stuff, and educational only in the form of historical fiction.  I read for pleasure and want a good story to keep me entertained. My library card gets a work out in spurts when the reading bug hits me.

YARN: I am totally at home in the yarn aisle of my local Hobby Lobby store.  I love to crochet and make blankets, especially baby stuff.  In the winter I enjoy being curled up under my latest creation hooking away.  This winter it will be with the added touch of a fireplace and a nice, warm fire going while me and my yarn addicted sister  feed our hooker addiction.

BEER: Not going to lie, I love beer!  Must be the German part of me?  I don’t drink a heavy one, prefer Bud Select 55, nice and cold.  And weather permitting I want it on the deck in the evening, relaxing and enjoying being outside.  Or tailgating which I think is illegal without beer!

DIAMOND RINGS: This is probably the only pricey item I will ever indulge in, I love rings and LOVE diamonds.  It is killing me that my wedding bands are locked up safe and not on my hand, only because they really aren’t something I’d wear any longer for various reasons.  I also have 2 beautiful rings that hubby gave me for anniversaries, ruby & diamonds, and emerald & diamonds.  Those are in need of some minor repairs at the jewelers but I may part with them entirely.  Thinking take all 3 in and get myself something really nice that I like and wear it?  Have to see how that goes.

COLORING BOOKS & CRAYONS: I love to color, it is like therapy to me!  Once in a while I will buy myself some crayons and a color book, I just say it is for kids coming over but really it is for myself.  :)

BUBBLES: Totally cheap therapy, bubbles!  I love them, and could sit on the porch and blow bubbles for hours.  Now that I have a cat I may have to get some to entertain her.  I could lay on a blanket under a tree and blow bubbles all afternoon if I didn’t have to work today.

DIET COKE & CANDY: After cruising the grocery store, sometimes I hit the check out and grab one of those handy dandy, cold soft drinks in a bottle and a candy bar just because.  There they sit, usually unnoticed by me.  But sometimes a diet pop and a Mounds Bar just is SO needed!

ICE CREAM: Sometimes it is a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with dark chocolate syrup over it that just tickles me pink inside!  SO good and so bad for my ass and hips. Not that I care that much, never stops me from having it!

SHOWER GELS: I love shower and bath gels!  Bath & Body Works has the best without a doubt, but I don’t care if it’s the cheap kind there is just something so girlie about a shower puff and some good smelling gels!  OH and hand soaps too, love scented, liquid hand soaps.

SCENTED CANDLES: Candles are awesome, I love having a bunch of them lit for the scents and the soft light.  Woodwick candles are my favorites, they sound like a camp fire burning and that is so soothing.

Those are just a few of the things I love to buy for myself when I need a little spoiling.

Meet Me On Monday July19th

The concept behind Meet Me On Monday is to get to know the bloggers you follow.  It was started by Never Growing Old on her blog page and any blogger is welcome to participate. Just click the Meet Me On Monday Icon for information.

1. What is your favorite sandwich?

Hands  down, a Chipotle Steak Burrito, with rice, black beans, corn salsa and cheese.  However I  much prefer it in a bowl with chips to scoop it up rather than a fork.  In fact I like it so much that last week I had it for lunch 5 days straight.  I may do it again this week too.

2. What is stashed under your bed/mattress?

Nothing at all…well there may be a stray cat toy from the kitten, as her favorite place to sleep when I am not home is under my bed or my mom’s, but I have nothing under there of my own.

Suat Eman /

3. What is your favorite flower?

Lavender roses are my favorite flower, with yellow ones close behind.  Yellow had been my favorite all my life, and unknown to me it was my  mom’s and her mother’s as well.  Then I discovered lavender ones and yellow had  to take a back seat.  I think honestly the best way to display them is  mixed with white ones as it really makes the purple color stand out.

4. What is your favorite magazine?

Honestly I don’t really have a favorite.  I love to read and can find something of interest  in any magazine that is laying around.  Some favorites are National Geographic,  O, People, Cosmopolitan, and Reader’s Digest.  Over all  I just prefer a good book  over a magazine.

Michelle Meiklejohn /

5. How often do you weigh yourself?

Hmm…it is a rather random activity.  Unless my clothes suddenly change in how they fit, either loose or tight, or I am purposely trying to lose weight, I just never bother to get on the scale to see what it says.  How I look makes the  difference to me.  Judging from what my friend, Kim said in the grocery store today (we hadn’t seen in each other in a few months) I must be doing something right because she thought I looked like I had been losing  weight. My clothes are fitting looser so maybe I should get on the scale again?

5 Question Friday – July 9th

1. What is one food you could eat everyday?

Chipotle steak burrito bowl with rice, black beans, corn, and cheese.  I get a bag of their chips and use the chips instead of a fork to eat it all, YUM!  I actually ate it  for lunch and dinner for a solid week once so I know  I could do it everyday.  Never see myself  tiring of that one!

2. Are you working in the career you thought you would be when you were 18?

No, never did have that one.  While  I wanted to be a lawyer when growing up, the idea of such a lengthy time in school did not appeal to me.  Once I reached 18 my goal was to be a wife and mom, with the intention of staying home and raising kids.  I never had that opportunity and now that my kids are adults it is a lost dream.  In my mid 30s I thought I wanted to be a sign  language interpreter but with one class left life dealt us an interesting card – kinship foster parents  for 4 kids.  I took off school for a year and then I just  never went back.  I can still sign but the skills are weak and the language so complex that I would need to repeat a lot of classes in order to get back to where I need in order to interpret.

3. What is something that you wish you would have done when you were younger and you didn’t?

I really wish I had gone to college MUCH younger than my mid 30s, like in my 20s!  However it is never to late to return to school and I am giving serious consideration to going back..just as soon as I figure out what it is  I’d like to learn.

4. What color are your kitchen walls?

I guess you’d call it a shade of olive green.  It actually is a cheerful and warm color, one that gives a feeling of peace.  I really love our kitchen.

5. Do you remember what your very first favorite song was?

WOW  no, but it  was on a Donny Osmond album,  probably his first  one?  Most likely “Puppy Love” but not completely certain.  Dang that goes  so far  back in time…

TGIF, Chiptole And A Busy Weekend

Nothing is quite like waking up to the wretched sound of the alarm clock and realizing it is finally FRIDAY!!!!  I hit the snooze alarm and snuggled back in not wanting to get out of the bed this morning.  Pixel was sitting on my pillow watching me intently for any sign that my eyes were open.  I reached up and petted her which delighted her to no end.  She is catching on that if she wakes me up there will not be a positive response.  So she was sitting there pretty as can be just waiting for some indication we could play.  She responded by attacking my hand, wrapping all 4 paws around my wrist and nibbling my fingers.  As soon as I sat up and turned on the light she scampered around the room chasing her balls and stuffed mice and then meowing at the door, she wanted out to go play with Noel.  Noel has been teaching her all she needs to know about being a big cat, a lot of which we’d be perfectly happy if Pixel remained unaware.  After running wild through the house for a few hours they both crash together and sleep, or rather recharge their batteries for the next round of the wild rips.

Pixel & Noel sleeping on a kitchen chair

Today is payday and I’m giving praise for direct deposit and the ability to check my account, transfer funds etc. all online.  I even pay all my  bills this way, it is awesome!  Of course because it is payday that means I had to have lunch at Chipotle.

I always arrive around 11am or Chipotle’s line is too long.  I got there at 11:10 and a line was forming fast.  I get the same thing every time, a steak bowl to go.  The wonderful people there fill the bowl with rice, black beans, steak, corn salsa and cheese, all while I try not to drool on the glass as I watch.  A bag of chips, a large drink and I head back to my office where I close myself off to enjoy my very scrumptious meal.  No need for the fork, I use the chips to scoop up the delicious contents and eat!  This is one of those comfy fuzzies I spoke of in a previous blog.

This weekend is not going to be a relaxing one for me and my sister.  Tonight Pixel goes to the vet for more of her vaccinations, there is a graduation party for one of my nieces, and one of my favorite local bands, TimePiece is playing at a local bar and I hope to stop in for a bit. Tomorrow it is up early to take part in one of the Give Back Cincinnati volunteer events, Paint The Town and we are participating. Rain or shine over 1000 volunteers will paint 59 houses tomorrow to help spruce up 2 local neighborhoods. It isn’t too late to get involved if you aren’t busy and it is a fun, great way to give back to the community.

After painting all day we will race home, shower, and head to Great American Ballpark for the Reds game with the other 3 Divas. That should be a lot of fun if it isn’t raining!

Of course when we get home, it will be wine night so we’ll top off the evening with a new wine before we all crash in our beds. Something tells me that Sunday morning those of us that do not have to get out of bed (sorry about your luck Sarah) will be sleeping in!  Sunday we’ll catch up on cleaning, laundry and reading once we finally emerge from much needed sleep!

If you are looking for a very easy way to give back the community yourself, consider donating blood!  Summer is especially critical for blood banks as donations drop off and need rises.  The entire process takes about an hour and they give you cookies and juice or soda when you are finished.  Your donation alone can save up to 3 lives.  For more information check your local phone directory or if you are in the greater Cincinnati area, go to the Hoxworth Blood Center site for information about locations. If you are local and I know you, I’ll come hold your hand if you are squeamish about needles.

Everyone have a GREAT Friday and find a way to give back to your community!

I Love Being Me

I love when I first encounter someone on IM and they say “so tell me about you”.  I always respond with, “what exactly would you like to know?”.  Specific questions from the other side are a big help in telling someone about me, because I am never sure what it is they really want to know.  There are a lot of things I could share with them but most are seeking certain information and the more direct they can be the faster we can supply what it is they really want to know.  Since I am a freak magnet, they usually are seeking to know if I am married and what my favorite sexual position might be.  Those land on my ever growing ‘ignore and block’ list.

Once in a while I will receive one of those “get to know your friends” emails with a list of questions designed to get to know them better.  Usually the answers do not reveal a whole lot I wasn’t already aware of about my closer friends but once in a while there will be a shocker in there.  It is more fun to answer the questions as it is like reviewing who I am, and I always find that I really do like the person named Marti that is answering those questions.  I just got the 2010 version of get to know your friends so just for fun I will answer a few but in more detail that  I would on an email.

Q. What is your favorite flower?

A. My favorite flower is lavender roses.  At one time, like my mother and her mother, it was yellow roses, but then I discovered lavender roses.  Purple is my favorite color, just about any shade, and lavender roses are just beautiful.  Mixed with white ones their color is even more intense.  I have a lavender rose bush at the old house that I plan to transplant.   The women in my former church had a secret encourager program, where those interested filled out a short bio about themselves and stuck it in the ‘hat’ and everyone drew one.  For a year you secretly did something at least once a month to encourage that person.  This resulted in many notes, cards and small gifts especially around special dates like birthdays and anniversaries.  One year for my birthday my encourager gave me a lavender rose bush and some how I’ve managed not to kill it.  I love that bush and want to bring it to my new home where  I can enjoy the flowers again this summer.

Q. Name 3 things you are afraid of.

A. The number one fear I have is fire.   I’m not entirely certain when that started, though I suspect it was when I was in grade school when two separate fires really impacted me.  One was  the Beverly Hills Super Club fire, the accounts in the newspaper following that night really upset me a lot.  The second was a fire in Amberly Village that claimed the life of two teen age girls one night. The accounts of neighbors and family that could hear their painful, last screams have been with me since reading them, I cannot imagine a more horrible way to die.  Having been married twice to fire fighters I also have a pretty good education in what happens in a fire and so I am a fanatic about smoke alarms and changing the batteries every time the time changes in Spring and Fall. In my first marriage I saw first hand the destruction of a house fire when our home caught fire while we were separated before the divorce.  There is  something deeply upsetting about seeing your things burned and coated in soot.

The second fear I have is the dark.  I am again not certain why but I am terrified of the dark and have to have night lights around the house so that I can see at night.  I sleep with a flash light within reach in case the power goes out just to be sure I can see to find a candle.  I am also night blind so that adds to the fear because I don’t make out my environment very well on a visual level once it is dark.

The third fear I have is storms.  I’ve always been afraid of nasty storms and never got over it as I have grown older.  I have a  weather radio and keep it on all year round.  I admit I am not liking not having someone to wrap around me now when it storms like it did the other night.  I am okay with storms during the day time but once it is dark I really hate them.

Q. Favorite fast food?

A. I guess Chipotle would qualify as fast food, goodness knows once to the counter it is prepared very quickly for my enjoyment.  I love  their steak bowl with rice, black beans, corn salsa and cheese.  I skip the fork and use tortilla chips instead.  I have been known to go on a binge and eat it 2 meals a day for several days in a row it is that good!  I find it a good value to for the money too.  If I am not overly hungry the bowl will feed me for two meals which isn’t bad for $7.50 for the bowl and chips.

Q. Favorite adult beverage?

A. This is easy to answer, I like beer. Big shock, I am a west sider, raised Catholic and love the summer church festivals so yes, going to doubtlessly like beer.  I grew up on beer as a kid.  Now don’t freak out  but yes my parents would let us have a tiny cup of Hudepohl 14K draft now and then.  We lived in Price Hill and dad used to walk up to Curnayn’s Bar, around the block from our house with a half gallon jug during the week and a gallon jug on the weekend.  He and mom would enjoy their beers on the porch at night in the summer time.  A big thrill for me and my siblings when dad would allow one of us to walk up with him.  Then things in the area went down hill a bit and the bar became a rougher place and dad stopped taking us along for the walk.  I come from a long line of beer loving German/Hungarian blood so beer is my favorite.  I’m not a big wine drinker but starting to enjoy it on Saturday evenings when we Divas get a different wine to sample.  This week the choice is another Mad Housewife variety, next week we are trying one called Big Pecker.  Our Saturday wine has to be something with a fun name and that one sure sounds fun!  I enjoy coconut rum over ice to sip, or vanilla vodka in diet coke, but given a choice I will usually opt for a beer.

Q. Zodiac Sign?

A. Taurus.  And believe me I am very true to my sign.  Now before all my born again friends start freaking out and pointing out that the Bible addresses following such things as reading your fate in the stars, I know that.  BUT I also think God in His endless wisdom would have seen fit to apply certain personality characteristics to those born at various times of the year and with certain planets etc all line up a specific way.  After all everything He created works together so why not?  Besides I have yet to find someone that doesn’t line up with their sign.  Not all the characteristics of the bull are ones I am fond of but I am true to it.  One thing I did not do in the past was pay attention to the compatibility of my sign with others when forming long term relationships.  My soon to be ex is true to his  sign, and the least compatible sign to pair with mine other than Leo.  No surprise many of the issues we had were the very ones astrology experts warn about when pairing Aquarius and Taurus.  I’d say I’d be watching that in the future but I have NO intention of getting in a long term relationship again so astrological compatibility will not be an issue for a friend with benefits. If you want to know more about my characteristics read up on Taurus.

Q. Favorite time of day?

A.  Whatever time it is right now.  I have learned over  the past years to live in the moment, life is short and you have to enjoy where you are and what you are doing right now as there are no guarantees that you have the next minute.  No point in longing for what isn’t here, far better to enjoy the moment I am currently living.  At the moment my favorite time of day is 1:15 in the afternoon on Saturdays.

Q. If you could change one thing in your past what would it be?

A. Not a blessed thing.  Seriously I would not go back and change anything.  I believe everything in my life before today has helped make me the person I am today.  My life is not without its very painful and difficult times, some frightening as hell, some so painful I didn’t think I’d survive, and some so gloriously  happy that I cannot find the words to describe the feelings.  But everything worked together, and still does, to make me who I am now.  Certainly I’ve paid the price for many of my decisions, the consequences sometimes were hell, but they were my decisions and I learned from them.  The Garth Brooks song, Standing Outside The  Fire, describes it well, “life is not tried it is merely survived if you’re standing outside the fire”.   I have said this before, I’d rather be sitting in my rocker when I’m old saying “remember when” rather than “damn I wish I would have…”  I would rather have regrets for the things I’ve done than the things I wanted to and never did.  “I’d rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special.” ~ Shelby, Steel Magnolias

Okay that is a little bit more about me.  Perfectly imperfect, adorable, fun loving, sometimes temperamental, sometimes moody, mostly always bubbly and forgiving to a fault ME!  And I LOVE being me!
