Wishful Thinking Thursday

I love this blog idea.  My fellow blogger, Nota, hosts this one.  Not sure if she has a link-up for it yet but the gist is this:

Take 5 out of your day and dream…and share it.

If your day dream was today, right now, what is happening?

~*~

The coffee in my cup never gets cold, but it always at the perfect drinking temperature.

The made-from-scratch, including the flaky crust, delicious apple pie my daughter made us, that I just had a slice of for breakfast, does not in any way impact my scale or waist line.

I have 500 women in my down-line, we are hitting 1 million in unit sales a year, and I have someone else I am paying to unpack, check the invoice, and bag up my Avon orders.

I’m driving a cute, PINK, 4-wheel drive pick-up truck with the Avon logo on it and my 800 number, and when people think “Avon” around these parts they think of me, Marvi Marti, THE lipstick diva!

I have no money worries any longer, I’m financially independent.

I am married to my dream guy, we live in a spacious but not ridiculously large house.

I have my lap doggies and my cats.

Every room of my home is decorated very tastefully and festively for Christmas.

~*~

It may all be wishful thinking, for now, but it WILL be my reality one day, mark my words.

OUCH! @#$%^&*!!!!!

OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!!

I have a very painful boo boo today.

Okay wait, let me back up here a bit first.  Every 2 weeks I am prepping and throwing my Avon brochures.  At least 500, sometimes up to 1000 depending on a number of things.  This is a process of stamping each one on the space on the back with my name, phone number and website for my store.  I also hand date each and every one.  Then if there is an insert, and there nearly always is, I stuff them all.  Then I put each in a plastic bag, roll it like a newspaper and rubber band it.  Needless to say this takes a number of hours to accomplish, anywhere form 4-8 depending on the number I am processing for distribution.  My hands are SO sore by the time I am finished that I look forward to the day I am making enough to hire students to do this task.

Often the process of preparing these books is done along with my mom and sister.  We gather, stack up our boxes of catalogs, then go through the prep process while watching our favorite TV shows a few nights a week.  It is much more pleasant a task in the company of others.

On distribution day I load up my car with 6-10 large boxes of the rolled brochures and head out.  These boxes weigh a LOT and I am out of shape and never properly lift so add a back ache to the hands.  I drive along through various neighborhoods with my driver’s window down (this ought to be a treat come winter) and I go slow, tossing a brochure onto each driveway.  I have some streets that I frequent due to gaining customers on them, others I pick that I’ve never thrown on before.  I don’t come home until all of the brochures are distributed.  This takes only an hour to an hour and a half.  There are many reps that think this method is wrong, that I should hang them on the door handles or even knock on doors and meet the potential clients.  I say that this method works just fine, and besides I know what it is like to be in the middle of something and have the doorbell ring.  If they want Avon they will call and we will meet!

So, today I loaded the car and headed out on my rounds.  About half way through I received my severe ouchie.  I was pulling the rolled books from the box, in a hurry, and depositing them in my lap.  I have very long nails (yep you see where this is going) that are acrylic as I cannot grow them myself.  I wasn’t being careful and jammed my hand into the box.  I’ve done this hundreds of times without issue, but this time I did it at just the WRONG angle.  I snapped the nail on my birdie finger (that one we so like to use to inform other drivers when they are #1).  Not only did it snap but it tore the real nail beneath it, off the nail bed, about a quarter of the way down my natural nail. I uttered quite the string of obscenities that would have made a trucker blush.  Sadly the nail was still hanging on by a piece of the nail bed and now was bleeding.

I stopped the car and pulled off the broken piece, followed by a few more choice, not-family-friendly words.  Thankfully I had a band-aid in my purse (I have everything in there, once winning a contest for the most items on a given list, in my purse, including an unidentifiable object).  So now I am typing with the injured digit wrapped in a bandage, which is very awkward with mostly a stub and the other fingers having rather long nails.  I’m so ticked at myself, as it will be weeks before that finger can have a nail on it again.  SIGH….

Oh well, the day wasn’t a loss, all 600 books were distributed, already have one new customer from this toss round, and signed up a new recruit for my team.

By the way, if you’d like to start living the life of an Avon Lady yourself, join my team.  Doesn’t matter where you live I can sign you up, train you (live video etc) and help you make a nice living (decide what that is and you can earn it).  Just go to Start Avon and enter the code: BREDESTEGE-GARD and for $20 you too can make money and have some interesting stories to write about!  You will also receive top notch support from me, as your upline, as I take good care of my recruits.

Me Time…

I’ve noticed that I’m not getting a lot of ‘me time’ lately.  Between 2 jobs I just don’t have much time left over.  Anyone that doesn’t think daycare is a job, has never done it.  It is difficult and what time I do have on the computer is interrupted constantly by at least one child if not all 3 of the ones I have all day.  But I do enjoy it so I’m not complaining.  Avon is hard work too, if you want it to be successful.  Not hard physically, especially now that I’m rolling and throwing the brochures from a moving car as opposed to walking them around.  But that takes time and planning.  I have a lot more to do than I had realized if I want this to be the money maker I know it can be.  But again,  not complaining at all, I love this business!  Mostly because I work for myself and set my own hours.  I’m a slave driver!

I’m at the end of a campaign, so it goes in tomorrow.  Orders are already online I just have to hit the final submit button come morning and it’s done.  I can now breathe for a night or two, relax a bit.  But I won’t.  Oh I have a glass of wine sitting here, but there is work to be done.  A new brochure to study, books to be read, I don’t feel I have the time to spend with online games like I wish I did.  Even when watching TV, most of the time I am multi-tasking by stamping and dating brochures.  I live for the day that I can do just the Avon, full time and really pour myself into it.  For now, I try to squeeze out as much time as possible.

Me time is nails and a hair cut.  Though even that is somewhat work related.  After all, would YOU buy cosmetics from someone that looked like they just crawled out from under a rock?  It’s like when I walk in a health food store and the person behind the counter looks like death walking, all skin and bones and chalky white skin.  NOT the picture of health if you ask me.  Sure, I want to be eating or drinking what you recommend, doesn’t everyone want to look like a starving vampire?  Having nice nails and my makeup on,  hair looking nice, goes a long way for selling Avon, at least I think so.

Me time is also a good book, though lately I’m reading books related to sales.  Not relaxing like a trashy romance novel, and it is work related stuff so I don’t count that as down time.  Blogging is me time too, therapy even. But lately I have only been keeping up regularly with my Avon blog, again work.  :(  I need to win the lottery.  I used to be somewhat of a procrastinator but that side of me has been swallowed up by the side of me that wants to succeed and make a lot of money.  Financial freedom, it IS what I most want, and to not have to worry about money anymore.  And I want to do what I love…working with people, marketing and selling great products.

I need to give myself an hour a day maybe, of me time.  To blog, pleasure read, play Farkle, anything as long as it is NOT work related and IS something I enjoy.

Marvelous Give Away 6/28/11!!!

Contest open Tuesday, June 28th through midnight (EST) Friday, July 1st

(U.S. residents only)

I love giving away free stuff, especially because until I try the product and find it to be great, I won’t give it away or promote it.

Today’s product that I want to highlight and give to some lucky winner is Avon’s Naturals Antibacterial Hand Gel

Because I do in home daycare I have to wash my hands or use antibacterial gels throughout the day and this can seriously dry out the skin on hands and cause them to start cracking.  Recently, on a date, the gentleman was holding my hand and started rubbing it, commenting on incredibly soft my hands were.  He asked what lotion I used, and I honestly answered him, NONE!  He could not believe that I don’t use anything and yet my skin is so soft.

I credit Avon for this.  Their hand gel does  not strip my skin or dry it out, in fact it seems to moisturize quite well while killing the germs from wiping noses, changing diapers etc.

Usually available  in 2.5 ounce tubes, Avon introduced their antibacterial hand gel in 1 ounce mini size this past campaign.  They are purse size perfect!  Usually sold for $1.49 they are on sale for only .99 cents!!  The full size, 2.5  ounce tube is usually $4.00 but is on sale in the current campaign for $1.99.  See page 161 of the current campaign brochure (click ebrochure on the right side bar) of my Avon Online Store.

I loved this product  so much that I’m going to give away 1 full size tube of either Vanilla or Cucumber melon (winner’s choice), and 3 of the minis, one each of Vanilla, Cucumber Melon and Pomagranate & Mango.

To be eligible (you can have up to 3 entries):

1 – leave a comment on this post

2 – ‘like’ my Facebook page (see side bar), or if you already are a fan, leave a comment on the post about this give away on the Facebook page.

3 – Tweet this post  on your Twitter feed (click below to tweet)

I will randomly draw  the winner on Saturday morning, July 2nd.

New Avon Naturals Mini Antibacterial Hand Gel

Why I Do What I Do…

I’ve done the corporate America game…office, cubical, dressed up, business casual, dressed down, performance reviews, deadlines, budget season, year end chaos…I  don’t miss it ONE bit.  Oh sure, when I was let go from a company I had been with 26 years, I was very upset and even scared.  It took 18 months to find another job, some of that was trying to find one that payed enough!  I managed 2 offices after that, okay 3 if you count the part time one with the insurance agent.  Stuck behind a desk all day rocking a florescent light bulb  tan.

Daycare/Childcare is paying the bills for now, and don’t get me wrong, I love that job.  I love kids and cannot wait to be a grandmother to someone with arms and legs rather than 4 paws and a tail (I have 3 granddogs, 2 grandbunnies, and assorted other grandcritters including a frog).

But by far my favorite job is being the Avon Lady.  Hang with me here ladies, and men for that matter.

I  do it so I can work from home, make as much money as I am willing to work for, and I love the products (yes all my makeup and  skin care is Avon).  What more reason is there?  Read on…

Avon has been around  125 years.  The company FOR WOMEN.  And they are still  going strong.  There are a LOT of women making a good living at this, if you consider being totally self supporting and making $50k, $75K, $100k and yes even over $200k a year making a good living.  It can and IS done.  The best part is…you only have to spend $10 to get started.  Yes $10 is it, the price of a good lipstick (when it isn’t on sale and usually we have some dynamite special going on!).

I didn’t buy a bunch of inventory, I order what I need for me and a few demo products.  Those demo items are featured a few campaigns  ahead, to just the sales representatives, at a significantly reduced price so that we can have  them on hand to use, wear and show our customers.  But you don’t have to buy them, trust me the product lines sell themselves, don’t go broke buying things you don’t need!

Avon WANTS you to succeed!  And they leap through flaming hoops  to make sure it happens.  Training that is online, your own online store front/website to sell to people out of your area that are friends and family, it is great!  NO more territories, you can make customers anywhere, anytime you like.  Trust me I do!  If  I can get your ear for 2 minutes  in line at the grocery store you will walk away with a brochure, my business card and a sample or two.  It’s how I roll.  It’s how you can roll too!  Monthly district sales meetings, and our district does FREE bingo where you win free Avon products that  reps and their customers (or potential customers) may attend.

Avon reps get 20% commission regardless of how much they sell, and that increases based on your individual sales.  On any given order you can be making 40% easily!

Is it hard work?  Define that for me!  I walk a neighborhood and  ‘throw’ (toss) 120-150 brochures on porches and hang them on door  handles.  I need and don’t mind the exercise.  Every two weeks I’m stamping and dating those brochures (while watching TV or listening to music).  Every two weeks the order arrives and I have to check it for accuracy, then bag up and deliver products to my customers.  This is not hard at all, just time consuming.  But  even then I’m not putting more than 3 hours  into all of that in a given week.  The more  I do, the more I can make.  Same with leadership, having people down line in my unit increases my earnings!

I work with a bunch of great ladies, everyone helps and shares  tips with everyone else, we all want to see each other making  money and loving what we do.

Why not try it?  Even if you only did it to cover your own makeup expenses, it’s worth it right?  But what if you could also add $100, $500, $1000 or way more than that to your monthly budget? What would YOU do if you had that much extra to spend?

Contact me and I can help you get started!

Skin Care Skeptic – SOLD!

2 Weeks to your BEST SKIN yet!!!

I have always been a real skeptic when it comes to all the hoopla surrounding various skin care lines.  After all, they are usually quite expensive and I just have a hard time parting with my money for a ‘maybe’.  So, when Avon made it possible for me as a sales representative to try the Anew Skin Care line, I figured this was my chance to prove to myself that it was highly over rated. I won’t endorse a product that I don’t believe in so before I give my review and opinion of something I want to try it for myself.

I went down the 5 question skin care survey to see which of the Anew lines was right for me.  I’m 48 years old and while I am told I don’t appear to be, I know that I’m starting to show my age.  I have  dark circles under my eyes because I’m very pale skinned (and frankly not willing to spend the money on tanning right now).  My skin also is a bit blotchy and pitted in places from a run with adult acne in my 30′s.  So I chose the Anew Reversalist regimen and ordered the 2 week starter kit.

Every day I washed my face in the morning and evening.  This was huge for me as it was because usually I fell into bed with my makeup still on, which is not good.  I also applied the eye cream in both morning and evening.  Mornings I used the day cream all over my face,  and evenings applied the night cream, then prepared myself mentally for maybe nicer feeling skin but hardly expected to ‘see’ anything change.

In addition to Avon I am a  daycare provider.  I watch 3 kids, 9 months, 2 years old and 7 years old.  I take the 7 year old to school and pick her up each day.  Usually at nap time in the afternoons I am picking her up and either my mom, sister or niece are home so that I do not have to take the little ones.  At the 1.5  week mark of my 2 week trial, I had the baby in tow when I picked up little Princess Smiles A Lot at the school.  While getting them buckled in to their seats, the 7yo  looks up at me and says “Miss Marti, your face looks a lot younger today”.  Now keep in mind the sun is shining so there is no soft light to mask over the fine lines etc. that come with being 48 years old.  I admit it did a lot for me, after all she is 7 years old, so that coming out of no where kinda surprised me.

I’m now in my 4th week of using the Reversalist regimen, and now I  can see changes.  My skin really IS firmer, the fine lines are much less defined, the blotchy areas are fading and yes, my skin really does look and feel much better, younger.  I feel like I received a face lift,  this is really amazing.

Yes I am an Avon representative, but I’m not biased.  I tried this product and whole heartedly believe in it, it really is amazing.

This current brochure, Avon is selling the 2 week starter kit (cleanser, day and night creams and eye cream) for $25 as a way to let our customers try out the high end skin care line.   All of the full size regimens are on sale as well.  I cannot recommend a skin care regimen more, it really has made a difference, I even stopped breaking out like I tend to do during PMS week.

ALL the skin care lines Avon sells are on sale in this current brochure, so if you cannot afford to consider a high end line, believe me the less expensive ones will still give you results you will like.

My daughter has fought with severe acne throughout high school and recently started the Clearskin Professional line and loves the results.  She was using Proativ, which was helping, but not nearly giving her the results she wanted and was far more expensive.  She highly recommends it and is going to write up a review in the coming weeks.

To view the brochure online just visit MY SITE to shop the eBrochure (you can click the Avon Lady icon in my sidebar).  If you are local in Cincinnati I deliver for a more personal touch, or if you prefer or are not in the area, you can purchase online and chose to have the items shipped to you directly (free shipping if the order is $30 or more).

Put it to the test, see if you don’t agree that a good regimen of skin care, used daily, isn’t the best thing you have ever done for your appearance!

Avon has a no risk satisfaction guarantee,  if you are not satisfied, they will refund your money – nothing to lose but great skin to gain!

The Diaper Diaries

Welcome back to my ongoing journal of daycare diva.

It has been a busy morning so far.  The alarm sounded at 6am, I have finally found a tone on my phone alarm that is at least pleasant and not horribly rude.  My Droid has a desk cradle for the phone that makes it a clock when it is docked and charging.  I love it. One glance and I see the time  in a huge font, the current outside temp and weather conditions and if I have any emails or text messages.  I love technology!

I got up,  made the bed (the one thing I am totally OCD about is immediately making my bed and keeping my bedroom in order), went down and started coffee, then hit the shower.  Once ready to roll I headed over to the home of the little ones I currently care for during the day.  It was late start day for the 7 year old at school, and she went to an amusement park for a picnic last night so I offered to go there this morning so she could sleep in and mom could leave directly from home.  I remember those days with one child to get out the door, so since I would have to go that way to take the 7yo to school it just made sense.

I fed the 3 darlings (and I do mean that, they are great, adorable kids), 9  months, 2 years old and the 7 year old.  Next got everyone dressed, grabbed the last cup 0f coffee (mama made extra, thanks mama!) and we headed to school.  After dropping off Princess Smiles A Lot I headed to the credit union to deposit my ‘check’ from last week (I feel for mama,  getting 2 little ones out of the car, into the bank and back out and into car seats is a chore!) and then headed to my house.  Little Miss Thang was sleepy so first order of business, after I set up the family room for playing (moving the coffee table, dragging out the toys, putting up safety gates and turning on Mickey’s Club House) was getting her cute little self changed and to bed for her morning nap.  Mr. Man settled in to play and I started my chores.  I  cleaned up the kitchen, emptied and reloaded the dishwasher and cleaned the litter box.  Now enjoying a fresh cup of Caramel Truffle coffee while I write and wait for Diva Sarah to emerge so  I can start laundry.

Last night when I needed the tool chest to change out my license plates (figured that was best since they expired and the last thing I needed the first of the month is a ticket), my sister, Diva Boo, took over.  She is our do-it-yourself Diva, with power tools.  She  said  since I do her laundry it is the least she can do.  I love my sister!  I am SO not the DIY type at all when it comes to tools and handy man type work.  Though I never  felt I was very domestic either, but mom had faith those skills were  in there somewhere.   Low and behold, they were!  I am little Ms. Domestic Diva, can cook, clean, do laundry, maintain the household and care for kids.  I am even amazing myself.  At first I didn’t think so, but now I realize just how much I actually DO contribute to the household by handling many of the domestic chores.  It only makes sense since I am home, right?  And childcare is becoming my favorite job so far in life, it is far more rewarding than anything else I have done, and reasonably profitable as well.

The Avon is slowly but steadily taking off and growing.  I knew this would take time and hard work, but I am not real patient, I want to be a senior executive unit  leader NOW!  The money one can make selling cosmetics is just amazing to me, and it too is very rewarding.  Just a lot of work but then it is it’s own full  time job if one wants to make a lot of money.  And I do!  The potential is realistically there to clear 6 figures annually within just a few years, so my motivation is totally up!  The best part is many friends across the country can be customers thanks to having an eStore!  They can view the full brochure right on my site (or I can mail it to them!).  If you don’t have a Avon rep, or haven’t seen a brochure, I invite you to click the “I’m The Avon Lady” button on my sidebar and check out the eBrochure.  For $30 and over shipping is free.  Shameless plug: Please, visit my Avon page and feel free to look around and have it directly shipped to you by paying online with a credit card.

Okay, baby is now awake (thanks to the weather radio weekly test I forgot about and didn’t turn the radio down) and the laundry is started.   Second cup of coffee poured into my Crazy Cat Lady mug, a hug from the toddler and giggles from the baby.  At the end of the day, the little ones will go home, and I’ll put away all evidence that they were even here, until tomorrow morning when we start all over again! :)

I love my job :)

WHY? WHY? WHY?

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

There is no ‘if’ about it, life is short.  It seems like just yesterday I was changing my son’s diaper, newly divorced and in the role of single mother.  Today he pushing is 27 years old, carries a gun and puts his life on the line as a cop.  I swear I blinked and went from protecting him to him protecting others.

So why DO we do so many things  we don’t like, and like so many things we don’t do? In a word: FEAR.

Many times I stayed employed in a job that I did not like because it was stable,  the pay was good, and I had medical insurance.  There were countless benefits that were unseen too, like free parking, location etc.  I transitioned through many positions within the 26 years at the company, some I really liked, others I  didn’t care for at all, and some I was simply content.  I feared leaving because there were too many ‘what ifs’ associated with leaving and trying something new.   It wasn’t until I was let go during a down sizing that I was forced to look for something new.  And the next two positions were similar in nature,  still stuck in a rut of doing what I knew I could rather than going after something that I thought I wanted to do but was unsure.  There was also much negative feedback associated with my occasional mentions of what I wanted to try doing.

After the next two jobs bit the dust, one was a seasonal lay off, the other the company just went under and I bailed when I saw the writing on the wall, I was forced to make some choices about my employment.  I was brain storming with my mom one Saturday morning, before the rest of the Divas were up and about, and I brought up childcare.  I really do love kids!  I am not really a domestic type, never got the joy of being the stay at home mom I had dreamed of, but I still  knew enough to know that watching children can be profitable, very profitable.  And then there is also Avon, something I very much wanted to sell.  I had taken a stab at it when my kids were little, and did it all wrong.  Now the corporation provides so much in the line of training that it is hard not to succeed.

Being home during the day watching children gives me a lot of opportunity to write, read, work the Avon business, and do something I very much enjoy, being a stay at home ‘mom’ of sorts.  I enjoy taking care of the kids a lot!  And I can pitch in around the house more, cleaning, doing dishes, and tackling Mt. Washmore, the Diva’s ever growing laundry pile.  It did take some initial adjustment, which worked well in the beginning as I only had the kids two days a week, then three, then four and now all five weekdays.  I eased into this and now I have a solid routine down.  It really works out well.

Avon allows me to do sales, something I have always wanted to try my hand at but never thought I had what it took.  And the product line is something I very much believe in.  I try the items that I recommend, and only recommend them if I really do like them.  I even started another blog page, I Sell Lipstick – Chronicles of an Avon Lady to not only share my adventures in this business but to review and give away products as I try them myself.

I also do some side work when needed for a friend that has  an insurance business, to keep the office skills up to date.

I still do not have medical insurance, but I am working with the agent friend to get a major medical policy in place and dental.  First I had bills that needed catching up from being without a paycheck.

Which brings me to another reason we tend to do things we don’t like, and avoid doing things we do like: other people’s opinions.

It is easy to become discouraged when others close to us have issues with what it is we are doing or want to do.  We write our dream off as a bad idea and stay where we are not happy.  For me, it was a deal breaker in a relationship with a guy that I really saw so much potential with for a possible life partner.  I wasn’t getting a ‘regular paycheck’ from anyone.  I think it had a lot to do with my not being ‘kept’ by that one, never mind that I get paid weekly, quite regularly and the same amount each time.  But that was an eye opener to me.

I’ve been employed in positions where I hated getting up and going to work each day.  I was moody, unhappy and most unpleasant to be around.  So many wasted years getting up and doing something I did not at all care for when I could have been doing something I really enjoyed.  I don’t care what you do for a living, as long as you pay your bills and you ENJOY what you do!  You cannot get back the time that is wasted in a very unhappy career.  No, not going to change what I do to make someone else feel happy and secure with me.  I love what I do, I am singing in the shower, humming and singing while putting on my make-up for the day, I enjoy being a daycare provider!  I enjoy cleaning the house and doing the laundry (dear gawd did I just really say that?? THE UNDOMESTIC GODDESS LIKES BEING DOMESTIC???).  I love selling Avon and plan to make that one helluva living too!  I don’t care what you do, be it a teacher, cop, firefighter, sanitation worker, stable cleaner, auto mechanic…if you enjoy what you do, if you are happy getting up and going to work each day, and we hit it off, then I accept you as you are, package deal.  If we don’t hit it off, I will cheer  you on in what you love, because life is entirely TOO short not to do what makes you happy!

I am now doing what I enjoy, and ever so thankful I finally took the risk and went for it!
